Lyr Req: Run Softly Blue River (Johnny Cash)

I am looking for the words to an old song that Johnny Cash sang years ago. I think it is called "Sing softly Blue River" or "Run softly Blue River". The lyrics that I remember go something like:

Sing softly Blue River, my darlin's asleep. Sing softly Blue River, run cool and deep.

Can anyone finish out the rest of the lyrics for me? I have looked and looked.

At the top of the page on the menu bar, you will find LINKS. By clicking on it, you can go to COWPIE. I went there and typed in Blue River, which came up with just one song by Johnny Cash which sounded likely, only it was BIG RIVER. Just click here for a shortcut to those lyrics.

Good luck and check back often. No doubt someone here will be able to help you, even if it takes a day or two.

Welcome to the Mudcat!

You know, I remember this being sung by Johnny Cash. It seems to me it was on an album that came out in the early sisxties just after he signed with Columbia... I think the album might have been called Johnny Cash sings olf Favorites. I have not not thought of that song in years.

Where are all you Johnny Cash collectors?

RUN SOFTLY BLUE RIVER
Words and music by Johnny Cash
As recorded by Johnny Cash on "The Fabulous Johnny Cash" (1958)

INTRO:
(Run softly, Blue River; my darlin's asleep.
Run softly, Blue River; run cool and deep.)

Run softly, Blue River; my darlin's asleep.
Run softly, Blue River; run cool and deep.

Oh, I thrill to her kisses and she thrills to mine.
Run softly while she sleeps and dreams for a time,
'Cause she dreams of tomorrow when she'll be my wife,
And I pray that as peaceful as you is our life,
And if your murmuring soothes me till I'm sleeping too,
Run softly, Blue River; we'll both dream with you.

REFRAIN:
(Run softly, Blue River; my darlin's asleep.
Run softly, Blue River; run cool and deep.)

REPEAT Verse

REFRAIN:
(Run softly, Blue River; my darlin's asleep.
Run softly, Blue River; run cool and deep.)

REPEAT REFRAIN & FADE:
(Run softly, Blue River; my darlin's asleep.
Run softly, Blue River; run cool and deep.)
