This is the tune from showboat, I believe It was written by Rogers and Hammerstein. Does anyone have them, or have any suggestions as to where to find them? dckeith@hotmail.com

I'm pretty sure it was Lerner and Lowe who did Showboat. I have the lyrics at home, if I find them before someone else posts them I'll be happy to help.

They're here in Mudcat's Digital Traditons Database

OL' MAN RIVER

However, for the original singer of the song.....

Old Man River
Real Audio of Paul Robeson

Oh yeah, the musical was done by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein.

Thanks George, I couldn't find it. I'm wise to using the capital letters, but was it the apostrophe I missed?

Yes, I don't use capitals at all. But I have noticed that a number of words, like OLD, or words ending in ING, seem to have an apostrophe to end it sometimes, and if I can't find it the one way, I'll try again with the apostrophe.

I'm not one for broadway stuff most of the time, even though I did the theatre thing all through high school but Ol' Man River is one killer tune. I assumed everyone knew it but sometimes I lead a strange existence. Neil

George - thanks for the sound track, Haven't heard that in years. I remember the Movie of Showboat and the guy who sang it, I think his name was Josh White, I still get chills when I think about it, I don,t remember hearing such feeling in any song as that one.

That's the THIRD showboat. I think if you look for the original one, which If I Remember Correctly, starred Irene Dunne as the young ingenue. There were actually 3 movies based on the Broadway show. The last one, with Kathryn Grayson was the most lavish.
