BS: Help name a band!!

10 May 00 - 10:43 AM (#225797)
Subject: Help name a band!!
From: alison

You all helped me to name a band before.. now I need help again. We need to have a name in the next few days....

There are 3 of us.. playing a mixture of Australian, Irish, Celtic, rock, pop, and tunes.. but we don't want a name that will pigeonhole us into one particular area, (so anything with "bush band" in it - is automatically ruled out).

Having said that we would like to sound Australian, (hard to please...I know..*grin*).

there are 3 of us ....2 fellas (1 Aussie, 1 English)and me (Irish).

I know someone out there is bound to have more ideas than we do at the moment.....

thanks

The Eclectic Postcolonials? (scholarly)

Unlimited Oz? (sounds like an L. Frank Baum novel)

Emerald Outback? (I drive a navy-blue one)

UKOZ or OZUK (you'd probably have to explain it)

Tea, Rose and the Gum Tree (everyone will think you're a duo of Tearose and Gumtree instead of thinking Tea (England), Rose (Ireland), and Gum Tree (Australia)

You can always choose a name like "flyin' high" so when you end your sets you can say "We're flyin' high, but we'll be back after a short break."

Well, have fun anyway!

I'm fighting with this particular boulder as well these days, so most of the suggestions I'd give ya, I'm holding on to incase we decide to use them....

But I can give ya some of the stuff we decided against...

Coronach -A scottish funeral song
Waking Up Free
Riverwill
Watching You
And my favorite of the discards...
Uncle Bad Touch! LOL!!!!
That way the first album could be called "Show Me On The Dolly"

But that's the kind of sick man I am!

I played with Eammon's Kitchen this weekend in Shreveport. THye chose their name becasue they developed the core of the music while sitting in Bodrhan player, Eammon's kitchen! Anyway, this weekend, Karen (the self titled Queen of band) said we were "Eammon's Kitchen, otherwise known as Hillbillies on Guinness!"

We have been accused of having bluegrass flavor to our music, so this comment was quite appropriate. Maybe you could develop something off of that idea ...

good luck!

I had no ideas when I first read this thread but after reading the St Albans - Aussie Catters threads I just had a couple of ideas. Throw tomatoes (ready, aim, wait for it!).....NOW!!

Bat-wom and the Pussy-platters

but then there is:

Aussie Catters

(but maybe that's too *esoteric*, hee-hee, what a great word, you have to say it with a certain serious pose, gesture and look *BG*)

If you'd like to avoid being pigeon holed who could certainly be "Square Pegs"

or perhaps the three of you find yourselves "In-Dependency".

"Southern Cross" might emphasize the blend of backgrounds.

but

"Ayers' Apparent" might not fly. Best wishes, -Bob

CONNERY
