At the center of the earth there is a mother.
- Susan Griffin -

In this, my second Mother's Day, as a motherless child, I would like to tell all of my "MudBuds" thanks for all of the nurturing, in some cases "mothering", fun, and kindness you've shown me throughout the year. May it return to you tenfold.

Merry Day to you,

luvyakat

Happy Mother's Day to all. I've always thought of it as a "Hallmark" holiday but have had some special things happen with my son this year. He has made it mean something for me.

So hug a mother tomorrow. Even if it's a mother cat or dog. We are amazingly special people.

I lost my birth mother fairly early in life, and was BLESSED a thousand times over with wonderful women who've helped me learn how to live. Thank you all, JenEllen

I want to thank my Mom for singing to me, teaching me the old songs I still love. It wasn't JUST because it was the longest song I knew that I always asked for Barby Ellen as a bed-time song! I feel blessed because, not only was she a loving and wonderful Mom, my mother sang to me.

Here's a little song I wrote for the family Mother's Day get together too many years ago ... but the family still enjoys having me drag it out once a year. Sorry if it isn't in just the right form for lyrics .. I only joinded the mudcat two days ago .. but it looks like a really good site .. Happy Mothers Day

Dedicated to Mom, Rita, Sid, Peggy and Pat, by: David H. Smith

1. Happy Mothers Day Grandma, Wife and some others day In these days of liberated women We're still attached to you.

2. God Bless every one of you For all you've done to see us through As your children, husbands, lovers We truly do love you.

3. Though we're not quite sure what role to play As the old traditions turn to clay Listen, just once, and here us say. We truly do love you.

4. Thank you for your gentleness Thank you for your might Thank you for your difference that some have tried to fight.

5. So on this day and all year through Remind us all to remind you That despite the troubles with the men. We truly do love you!

6. And here's to all of motherhood For the things they won't and things they would If it can be said it surely should We truly do love you.

7. If you look real close--you'll surely see A truth throughout the family tree If it weren't for them; where would we be We surely do love you!

June, thank you for reminding me of that aspect. I may have had the most obscure and non PC songs as a repetoire as a small child but I am thankful after all these years she is still able to sing them with me with the same delight and joy as she did when I was little.

And I am twice lucky, because one of my daughters is making the trip back to the Island for a family barbecue tomorrow, so there will be three generations to share in her gift of music.

Thanks to my Mom, to the mother of my children and all the mothers of the world, and special thanks to a group of mothers that you may know nothing about, or perhaps something: MADRES DE PLAZA DE MAYO (May Place Mothers) who had never dismayed in the search and the claim, and the fight, and the defy of the most obscure forces, to find their sons and daughters and grandchildren too, or at least to find the place where they have been killed, after the night they disappeared forever, from their schools, from their homes assaulted by troops, in 1976 to 1983, when Argentina was a prisoner's field.
Un abrazo - Andrés
(30,000 civilians disappeared.. more than the most cruel war)

Un abrazo for you, Andres, and los abrozos
to all the mothers with holes in their hearts
because of lost children, whether it be to the
cruel circumstances you share, other violence, or
dreadful affliction.

A parent should not have to survive a child, nor
should they have to wonder about the fate of that
child.

Hugs to all mothers, and those who have their children
should feel doubly blessed. My mother did the best she
could to raise me alone during very hard times. In
her memory, I say,

Happy Mother's Day!

And to my own BBW, who has bloomed in mothering, and our beautiful, spunky, soft-hearted, tough-minded Barky, whom we love as life itself: may all your Mother's Days be occasions of love and happiness.

Sorry about screwing up the fourth stanza, Zonahobo, just noticed I forgot to place line breaks on it.

Well anyways....

My Thanks

My thanks to my mother who for 25 years, has held me, comforted me, given me the strength I need. My thanks to my mother for being there, holding me in her arms when I told her my secrets, and cried out the pain of twenty years. My thanks to my mother who in the darkest days of her depression stumbled around in the gloom making sure we were fed, nurtured and loved. My thanks to my mother who held tightly to my hand, reassuring me of her presence, as I swam through the murky depths of my own despair. My thanks to my mother for making me into who I am today.

Great thanks to my mother, who gave my two sisters and I life, who travelled around the world for 20 years with no complaints, who took care of us everyday, who homeschooled the three of us for 10 years, who instilled curiousity and the desire to learn in us, who was probably the main instigator in why I play music....God love her, as do we all!

We have a strange family. Mom works, Dad stays home with the kids. Thanks to the new job and the shift change, I have been able to watch our sons grow closer to Karen than ever before over the past six months. Through all the years of fostering she has given all those "Mom" things to so many kids, and with the previous job, her time was so short with Tris and Mike that we both worried they were missing out on things they should have. These past months have been good for us all. Both the boys have grown a lot and the extra time with Mom has been a big difference.

We decided to get together with friends this evening to share the day. Two families in a transition. Two mothers now enjoying more of their kids and 4 kids doing the same.

I don't know what I'd do without Karen.

I would like to thank kat for being the kind of mom I never got to experience. She knows when to do the mommy thing, when to be a good friend and when to be my sister.
My friend kat has gifted me so much love.
I bet I am not the only one around here who feels fortunate to have the friendship of this lovely lady in their life.

I was puzzled why Mothers Day was up and running here, when it was weeks ago where I live. So I cranked up my faithful WebFerret and found this "History of Mother's Day".

So a Happy Mother Day to all Mudcat mothers in the States, as well as in "countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May."

So do Canadians follow the American usage, or do they stick to Mothering Sunday like English speaking countries in Europe (and France, I believe)?

Mother, -You taught me to be kind, and caring to others -But to be blunt in standing up for those that need help -You taught me to love people-and hate cruelty -You taught me to look past a person's appearance- -and accept them for what is inside -You taught me the joy of singing-and of listening -You taught me to listen to the quiet voices of nature -You taught me to learn from others-- -and not to be afraid to ask for help -You taught me how to embrace happiness and endure sorrow -always realizing that each is part of the whole.

-Mother, Thanks.

-This day is yours-- -as are the other three hundred and sixty four.

Happy Mothers day to all of us lucky enough to have children in our lives.. My mom gave me a song to sing a prayer to pray, and a desire to share all she taught me..My children continue to give me joy, laughter, and a great deal of pride.. Chelsey is a beautiful young woman, a teacher,. a loving wife.. and a wonderful daughter.. Gabriel, MAKES ME LAUGH... he brings joy to my life..He's funny..a little crazy.. never boring.. He called today and at age 23 said "I'm so glad you're my MOMMY" what a case .. Mothers day.. every day is mothers day in our house, because I loved my Mom with all my heart and she taught me how to love my children...
