I AM LOOKING FOR THE LYRICS FOR "THE ROSE OF ARRANMORE." ALL I CAN REMEMBER IS "...that grand colleen in her gown of green, is the rose of arranmore." CAN ANYONE HELP?

THANKS, KEVIN

Sorry I clicked some clickey thing pre-maturely the last time!

A few verses for you Kevin: (from memory)

ROSE OF ARRANMORE

My thoughts to-day though I'm far away dwell on Tir Connell's shore
The silvery dunes and the blue lagoons round lovely sweet Gweedore
There's a pleasure there beyond compare I always will adore
That grand colleen in her gown of Green she's the Rose of Arranmore

. . . . .

And soon I will return again to the fields I love so well
Where many an Irish lad and lass her tales of love would tell
There's a vision in my memory I always will adore
That grand colleen in her gown of green she's the Rose of Arranmore

I'm sure this has been posted before

ROSE OF ARRANMORE

My thoughts today, though I'm far away
Dwell on Tyrconnel's shore
The salt sea air and the colleens fair
Of lovely green Gweedore
There's a flower there, beyond compare
That I'll treasure evermore
That grand colleen, in her gown of green
She's the Rose of Aranmore

I've travelled far 'neath the northern star
Since the day I said goodbye
And seen many maids in the golden glades
Beneath a tropic sky
There's a vision in my reverie
I always will adore
That grand colleen, in her gown of green
She's the Rose of Aranmore

But soon I will return again
To the scenes I loved so well
Where many an Irish lad and lass
Their tales of love do tell
The silvery dunes and the blue lagoons
Along the Rosses shore
And that grand colleen, in her gown of green
She's the Rose of Aranmore
^^

Couldn't access the music --

"Desolee, l'erreur - 403 - Accès interdit..."

(Vous etes un Troll du Chat de Boue....)

but: is it the same as STAR OF THE COUNTY DOWN, Click here ? Looks it.

Try again. I just got it and saved it. Maybe their server has a very small capacity. PM your email address, Pooka, and I will send it.

Good Question - It certanly would scan to "county Down" - but if the other tune is correct - how do the words fit the dots?

Hi,
did you ever get a reply to the request for the tune of Rose of Arranmore.

I need to sing this at my mothers 80th birthday party and to date I have had no luck.

My other e mail address is emmelp@highcliffe.dorset.sch.uk

Nothing like The Star of the County Down ........ go to utube and type in "The Rose of Aranmore", you'll get a few artists singing it.

It's a nice tune. I think I'll get it out next St Patrick's Day, because the gang will like it.

I've made a MIDI of it. If you want a copy, sign in and I will PM you a JPG.

There are videos on YouTube posted by bertosvids which are nice and clear for transcribing or learning by ear.

Arranmore is an island off Donegal in Ireland. Two R's.

Entered the title in Youtube search engine and found:

The Rose of Aranmore Sung by Maureen Hegarty

Clearly not the same tune as Star of County Down
