Help: New Guitar but...

Subject: New Guitar but...
From: Clinton Hammond2

A chum loand me his Takamine FD360SC with Acoustic DSP pickup because he upgraded to a much better Guild (I think) and I needed to replace a 17 year old Seagull...

Now it's no seagull, but I played it at my gig friday night and I enjoyed the Tak. kinda... the thing is... I'm stymied by the preamp and stuff... there's almost 20 presets and I guess I can write in 20 more or something like it, but there's no book telling me how to do this... Anyone got said book, or know where I can get one?? I tried the Tak website, but there was no contact info to be had.. just Dealer Finders....

Little help folks??

1) Set everything at "0" or "off."

2) Unplug the cable.

3) Buy a Shure SM-57 and a short mike stand.

Don't worry about thanking me, always glad to help.

(Anyone who'd loan you a machine like that without the instructions is not a friend.)

Peter.

Except that this Tak, like every other over-laquered guitar out there, sound not so good accoustic!

And playing the kinds of gigs I do miked, is NOT an option....

He is a very good friend, it just so happens that he never had a manual either...

So I won't worry about thanking you Mid!!

LOL!!!!

But I might be tempted to smack ya a good one fer being a smart-ass!!

Always go to the horses mouth. Find the tak website and ask 'em. Friend of mine's got one of those and it sounds pretty good. he doesn't know how to use the on board computer either.

Call Kaman direct. They're real nice folks who have helped me out on several occasions; even ran down a build date and retailer for me from 1982. Of course I never tell them their products are over lacquered and/or plastic, bad sounding, pieces of shit either.

I must be kind of behind the times because I've never had anything to do with the 'presets' or anything that fancy on a Tak but my experience with Taks is that the ususally sound pretty good no matter where one sets the EQ. It's their preamp system that makes them sound that good.

I would suggest using one of the preamp settings that you like and then sticking with that. I've been in bands that use Taks for years and years and it's been my experience that they work best if you just set everything flat.

I know they are not a hand made guitar but they still gave the best pickup system for an acoustic guitar. I play a Larrivee with an EMG pickup and pre in it and my wifes 'little small bodied plywood maple top over laquer'd Tak' kicks the crap out of the Larrivee for sonic performance.

Got a number for Kaman, cat?? Or a good place for me to look?? And as far as how they sound, I've spent the last 17 years playing a satin finish, solid top, and I'm sorry to say but for accoustic sound, the proverbila 38 layers of shelack on this Tak just can't compair... Plugged in it sounds great though!!! {~`

Ta' Jeremie... but I've looked at the Harmony site, and all I can find are people in the same boat as I am! LOL!!!!

Toad... it was never my intendion that this turn into a "My Guitar Is Better Than Your Guitar" thread... it's a matter of personal preferance... But setting the EQ flat and only using 1 preset is like playing a one sting guitar at one fret... I want to explore what this thing can do... But I'm strange that way... I tweak my sound from song to song sometimes... depending on the room... Depending on the sound I want to achieve... It's all part of the show eh...

Ta' so far fer the help eh!

I was recently at the Music Messe in Frankfurt. On the plane back to good ol' USA I was seated by the Takamine product manager, Mark Kasulen. I don't sell Tak's, but I do fix 'em. The ones made by Yamaha are my favorites, but tend to be priced higher than if they had the Yamaha logo. Seems like you think Tak is a brand unto itself. Sometimes maybe, other times, No. The e-mail for Kasulen from his biz card is: mkasulen@kaman.com
