From: Clinton Hammond2 A chum loand me his Takamine FD360SC with Acoustic DSP pickup because he upgraded to a much better Guild (I think) and I needed to replace a 17 year old Seagull... Now it's no seagull, but I played it at my gig friday night and I enjoyed the Tak. kinda... the thing is... I'm stymied by the preamp and stuff... there's almost 20 presets and I guess I can write in 20 more or something like it, but there's no book telling me how to do this... Anyone got said book, or know where I can get one?? I tried the Tak website, but there was no contact info to be had.. just Dealer Finders....

And playing the kinds of gigs I do miked, is NOT an option.... He is a very good friend, it just so happens that he never had a manual either...

From: Toad I must be kind of behind the times because I've never had anything to do with the 'presets' or anything that fancy on a Tak but my experience with Taks is that the ususally sound pretty good no matter where one sets the EQ. It's their preamp system that makes them sound that good. I would suggest using one of the preamp settings that you like and then sticking with that. I've been in bands that use Taks for years and years and it's been my experience that they work best if you just set everything flat. I know they are not a hand made guitar but they still gave the best pickup system for an acoustic guitar. I play a Larrivee with an EMG pickup and pre in it and my wifes 'little small bodied plywood maple top over laquer'd Tak' kicks the crap out of the Larrivee for sonic performance. Toad |

Toad... it was never my intendion that this turn into a "My Guitar Is Better Than Your Guitar" thread... it's a matter of personal preferance... But setting the EQ flat and only using 1 preset is like playing a one sting guitar at one fret... I want to explore what this thing can do... But I'm strange that way... I tweak my sound from song to song sometimes... depending on the room... Depending on the sound I want to achieve... It's all part of the show eh...

On the plane back to good ol' USA I was seated by the Takamine product manager, Mark Kasulen. I don't sell Tak's, but I do fix 'em. The ones made by Yamaha are my favorites, but tend to be priced higher than if they had the Yamaha logo. Seems like you think Tak is a brand unto itself.
