18 May 00 - 04:06 PM (#230075) Subject: RE: Tune Req: One Misty Moisty Morning From: GUEST,Bruce O. The song was originally called "The Wiltershire Wedding", and the oeiginal tune for it is the "The Friar and the Nun", to which the song is printed in 'Pills to Purge Melancholy' and which is is called "All in a misty morning" in Gay's 'Beggars' Opera'. The ballad is ZN73 in the broadside ballad index on my website, and an ABC of the tune is B149 in the broadside ballad tunes there. www.erols.com/olsonw

19 May 00 - 06:57 PM (#230789) Subject: RE: Tune Req: One Misty Moisty Morning From: Peter K (Fionn) Just to avoid confusion for anyone who has not heard one or the other, the tune MMario pointed to is, as it says, the one used in THE BEGGAR'S OPERA - but this is not the one used on PARCEL OF ROGUES. I know the latter may not be any more real than any of the others, Mag, but it is incredibly well matched to the lyrics. I've hunted round but never found this version (short of forking out to the personalised service on offer via the Steeleye website). But it's a dead easy tune, so maybe I'l jot it down myself in the next few days, if someone doesn't turn up a definite sighting first. |
