Go to sleep now, Marika
You never heard the radio
Go to sleep now, Marika
Children have more to cry about
Sitting in the ruins of a home
Don't you cry now, Marika
And that shouting from the street below
That rumbling going down along the road
Don't you fret now, Marika

Marika is my Cousin, who at the time of writting the song was living in New York with her Mother. She is now living in London, the place of her Father's Birth. Regards Kevin Barry Connolly |

The lyrics are pretty much what I recall from listening to the Irish Rovers' album in the early 70s and from singing the song to my children. The only lines I remember differently are: 'Carry only people, dear' and 'We are trying to forget' for the last line. Am I mistaken? |
