NAME THAT ARTIST--part 2

Well it seemed to be going well with lots of folks taking turns, so I thought a Part 2 might be in order. Here's a starter, not hard, but a bit tougher perhaps:

* Wisconsin native that "found a home" in the Appalachian Mountains
* Trad singer and an excellent songwriter.
* Political/Social Activist
* No Grammy's, but 5 nominations
* Multi-Instrumentalist, recognized "master" on one

Now that's a lot of info and you ought to get this pretty quick. Winner gets the next one.

BTW....I was going to do Stan Rogers and as a clue say his death was from smoking, but I thought that was a little bit of "dirty pool." We need to keep the clues legit.

Can I have a turn?

The prize? a "45" from my other "secret life" that nobody here knows about!

OK, here goes.

1. Known as good banjo frailer in New York during the sixties.

2. Of Nordic decent

3. Was multi-millionare before the age of 26

4. Has checked in on Mudcat occasionally (anonymously)

5. Believe me you've DEFINITELY seen him!

6. Has same initials as a currently prolific Mudcatter.

Well there you have it. If no one gets it in about 4 or 5 tries I'll give you the answer, 'cause those "45"s can be a bit embarassing!

OK, one more clue:

He didn't make those millions as a solo artist.

Answer: John McCutcheon. 'Spaw, you gave it away when you said Wisconsin native. Oh yeah, a bit of trivia, John's favorite beer is Leinenkugel's (sp) which is brewed in Wisconsin, of course.

Rick, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Steve Martin.

Rick, Sounds like Pete Seeger, to me. He made those million, I'm guessing as a member of The Weavers. I further guess that some of those revenues came from Goodnight Irene. How'd I do?

Clue #2. Doc Watson was a big influence.

Clue #3. Also a college professor.

Clue #4. Played with Sam Bush and Tony Rice.

not that easy...

Mac..Dan Crary. (the Deacon!)

Good tries folks, but the frailer who made REAL good and shares a first name and initial with our Peter T. is Peter Tork of the Monkees.

(said I didn't want to embarass myself by lettin' someone hear one of the old 45s!

Anyone game for another one? As you've guessed I LOVE trivia!

1. Played a guitar made from a bed's headboard.

2. Long time school teacher

3. Composed half of one of the most requested folk-type songs of all time.

4. Used an alias (don't remember his real name)

5. His Southern state considered him a "National Treasure"...so do a lot of other folks.

A new one!

1. Side man for Peggy Seeger, A.L. Lloyd, Ewan MacColl and many other Brit folkies.

2. Very influental "squeeze guy".

Wow!! Just finished sticking a worthless thought on another thread and thought I'd come look for this...and now there's TWO and THREE???

Rick---That was inspired. I would never have gotten it.

soddy--Hey, that's one of the few beers I actually like but I never to how to say it or spell it, but I can recognize the label!!! If I ask for it, I always end up making a joke with the guy and asking for Lingerflingerflugen. Generally they laugh and say, "Oh, you mean (insert correct beer name)." They always seem to know, if they have it that is.

Mac gets ALF EDWARDS! Very good. Now how about the Appalachian legend?

********************************************************

Simple one. heh, heh,

1. First performer to play an ovation guitar on stage.

2. Was called "the singing Christian"

3. Under his "real" name, recorded this line: "If you won't send me a woman...then send me a SISSY man!"

4. Personal bit: In my opinion, one of the finest players who ever lived.

******************************************************

Hey, I'm outta control!

New one.

1. Spent much of her/his life as a busker singing for theatre line-ups.

2. Was "collected" by a Mudcatter.

3. Was proud of being one of the "Travelin' People"

4. Fiercely protective of his/her songs. Would resort to violence (so the stories go) if someone sang one of his/her songs.

5. Album cover says: "World's Greatest Folksinger".
