I have been looking all over for the words to "Fifty Fifty Blues". If I remember correctly Louie Armstrong had a recording of this song bacl in the 40's . I did look through the Louie Armstrong web pages with no luck.

The Satchography (Louis Armstrong discography) says that Billy Moore, Jr. wrote "Fifty-Fifty Blues," and it was recorded by Louis Armstrong and His All Stars on June 10, 1947, in New York City.

I pieced together a couple of sound samples found at Yahoo! Music and transcribed the following lines. It is sung as a duet, with Armstrong and another male singer singing alternate lines. I've put Armstrong's lines in italics.

I woke up this morning feeling weary and blue.
Oh, I woke up this afternoon, but I felt the same way, too.
That makes us partners in sorrow. We've got blues enough for two.

I've got blues to spare, blues to share.
I've got blues in my heart, and blues in my hair.
The mood is hard to lose. Why don't we pool these blues until we start to feel all right?

OK, we partners in sorrow, with the fifty-fifty blues tonight.

It's Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarden in the version I have. And there is a last verse, which they sing together:
We had blues to spare, blues to share
Blues in our hearts and blues in our hair
That mood was all too loose, that's why we pooled our blues
But now we can see the light
We got the blues off our chests, that way is always the best
We lost the fifty-fifty blues tonight

Many thanks Jim and Jen. Somehow I missed the 2003 post.
My Louie Armstrong collection of 78's were sold at a garage
sale many, many years ago.   I was beginning to think that the words
were nowhere to be found. Luckily I still remember the tune.

Thanks again   Cap't Bob

I heard in on a old vinyl that a friend of mine had years ago. Here the the words I remember:

Well, I woke up this morning, feeling lonely and blue.
I woke up this afternoon and I felt the same way, too.
That makes us partners in sorrow; got blues enough for two.

Got blues to share; got blues to spare
Got the blues in my heart; I got the blues in my hair.

Why don't we move these blues; this mood is hard to lose.
Well I'm beginning to see the light.

We'll get these blues off our chest; that way is always the best.
We'll lose the fifty fifty blues tonight.

I found a stack of old 78 in the attic of the garage. Amazed to find the 78 that I though was long gone. A friend had a 78 player and copyed it for me. AT LONG LAST:::::

FIFTY FIFTY BLUES

I woke up this morning feeling weary and blue.
Oh, I woke up this afternoon, but I felt the same way, too.
That makes us partners in sorrow. We've got blues enough for two.

I've got blues to spare, blues to share.
I've got blues in my heart, and blues in my hair.
The mood is hard to lose. Why don't we pool these blues until we start to feel all right?

OK, we partners in sorrow, with the fifty-fifty blues tonight.

We had blues to spare, blues to share
Blues in our hearts and blues in our hair
That mood was all too loose, that's why we pooled our blues
But now we can see the light
We got the blues off our chests, that way is always the best
We lost the fifty-fifty blues tonight.

Appears to be the only copy in existance...
