Lyr Req: Ever-Lovin' Fingers (Jimmy Bowen)

Subject: Need title and lyrics
From: GUEST,Cookie

Can someone help? Searching for song title lyrics to this songs that begin or contain the following:

"I came home one evening from work,
I ain't nothing but a grocery clerk,
My wife thinks I should be more,
She thinks I should own the whole damn store...
Don't ever trust a yellow haired woman,
Don't trust her if her hair is black (or brown?),
Don't trust any kind of woman, she'll only let you down,
And the first thing you know, when your back is turned,
You'll get your ever lovin' fingers burned."

Thank you!

Hi,Cookie - I wish you had given a more specific title to your thread, since this thread title is just like the one next to it on the menu. You're better off using a distinctive pharase from the song as title for your thread. But since you started the thread, we may as well give it a try and see if somebody comes up with an answer. Can you tell us what kind of song i is (folk, country, or what), and maybe where you heard it?
I checked the usual pop and country sites for songs with the term "grocery clerk" in them, and came up with nothing close to what you describe. I have a feeling we're not going to find this one.

Sorry, Joe.

I didn't know what to put in it. I help out on a music message board and got a request for this song and I never heard of it so I thought I would ask here. I will try to post better in the future. Thank you Nightowl and I will see if I can find anything on the song you suggested.

Everyone is so helpful here.

EVER-LOVIN' FINGERS
by Jimmy Bowen

I thought I had me a woman, a woman that would be true.
I thought that after I married, her love would always be true;
But the first thing I knew, when my back was turned,
Got my ever-lovin' fingers burned.

Well, I came home one evening from work.
I'm just a lowly grocery clerk.
My woman thinks that I should be more.
Thinks I should own that whole darn store.

Don't trust a yellow-haired woman; don't trust her if her hair is brown.
Don't trust any kind of woman; she'll always let you down.
And the first thing you knew, when your back is turned,
Get your ever-loving fingers burned.
