Obit: Marsha Forest dies

I just clicked through from the Mudcat to another favourite site - and learnt that someone I only know through reading and the Internet has just died on June 2nd.

Marsha Forest has been a central figure in the struggle to get our society to respect and include people who are excluded - espeiclly people with disabilities (like my own daughter), but also other groups - native peoples and others. She lived in Canada.

I don't know whether Marsha sang songs - I'm pretty sure she must have, because she comes across as that kind of person.

I clicked your blicky and while it said a lot of lovely stuff it seemed to assume you already knew who she was, and I've never heard of her; I haven't found any obits, can you direct me anywhere?

No, I haven't seen any obits yet. Marsha only died yestarday. maybe the Canadian papers might, and various papers which are interested in these kinds of issues. (Which probably rules out most of the mass media). But I think if you dig around in Inclusion Press website you'll find more than you would in most obituaries. Worth doing that anyway.

I just did a search using a useful metasearch engine called Webferret (which is available free from here, and well worth having), and within a couple of minutes it came up with over 200 links. Being widely influential and highly regarded isn't always the same thing as being famous (and of course the other way round).

Thought I'd refresh this, since there are a lot of people around the Mudcat with good reasons for being interested in the kind of things Marsha was into, and they might have missed it over the weekend.

Dear Kevin,

Thank you so much for letting us know about Marsha and her work. I've just now gotten the chance for a quiet moment with which to look at the Inclusion site and the news about her life. What a beautiful description and set of pictures it was, truly representative of her spirit.

As the mother of a special child, I can only say how much the world will miss Marsha, and how much people like her mean to the special children of this world.
