I cannot remember who recorded it. I searched under "Kiss," "Shoemaker," & "Cobbler," and saw a reference to it in another thread, so I wondered if it might be listed in the DT under another name - ? It starts out - "Twas early one morning, a fair maid arose/and dressed herself up in the finest of clothes/off to the shoemaker's shop, sure, she goes/for her kiss in the morning early." It goes on from there - her father thinks some rich man is courting her, & is upset when it turns out to be the cobbler. It might be a composed song - ? Thanks. |

This album is long deleted...but I may have a copydeep in my vinyl vaults and will try and dig out the lyrics. Hope someone will bail me out if I fail dismally! I learned this (the song, not the line breaks)from the Mick Hanly tape mentioned by PJC above, but I don't have the printed lyrics so I'm just writing what I think I hear. There are a few words I'm not entirely sure of which may well be in error, so if PJC can find the vinyl with the words that'd be great! Also, I don't know if this is traditional or has a known author. The second line of every verse in the original was 'All alone in the lo li lo lin'. According to the O Lochlainn text, 'mournfully faced' is correct. The line after 'red shoes in the heel of her hand' is 'Oh it was in the morning early'. Hanly noted that he had 'doctored it a lot'. The seccond lines of the original were replaced and the tune altered. O Lochlainn's note is: 'Air and words kindly sent to me by Brother Seamus Shiel S.D.B. of the Salesian College, Baile na Coille, Laois.
