12 Jun 00 - 07:19 PM (#241686) Subject: 'I Love Me' From: GUEST,thomasrh@bigpond.net.au 1942 is a long way back, but I was ten years old then and in an orphanage. There was an old wind-up record player in the basement with just one record which I think was titled "I Love Me". I would really like to find the words to this humerous song and would appreciate any help. Some words I remember went like this: "I love me, I love me, I love myself to death I love me, I love me, 'til I'm all out of breath" I think the song was an English one as I remember the accent of the singer. Many thanks for your help. Ron Thomas, Brisbane Australia. |

I LOVE ME Performed by Vaudeville Comedian Billy Murray (Victor 19066-B) When people write their songs of love they write of one another It's always Sis or Ma and Pa, a sweetheart or a brother But love songs that they've aimed at me have all gone on the shelf I don't think that is fair, so I'll write one of myself. I love me, I love me, I love myself to death I love me, I love me, 'till I'm all out of breath I stop at every slot machine that I should chance to pass And give myself a hug and squeeze as I look in the glass Oh, I love me, I love me, I'm wild about sweet me I love me, only me, so I'm content you see With me I like to make a date To meet myself at half past eight If I'm not there, I never wait I'm wild about myself I love me, I love me, every place I go I love me, I love me, and at a movie show I take myself right by the arm and push me through the crowd And listen to myself read me the titles right out loud Oh, I love me, I love me, I love to squeeze my hand I love me, I love me, it always feels so grand With me I get right in my tub I let myself give me a rub Oh, how I love to feel me scrub I'm wild about myself. I love me, I love me, I'm wild about myself I love me, I love me, my picture's on my shelf You may think I look so good but me thinks I'm just fine It's grand when I look in my eyes and know they're mine all mine I love me, I love me, and my love doesn't bore Day by day in every way, I love me more and more I take me to a quiet place I put my arm around my waist If me gets fresh, I slap my face (Oh! Ma!) I'm wild about myself |
30 Mar 08 - 10:53 PM (#2301696) Subject: Lyr Add: I LOVE ME (I'M WILD ABOUT MYSELF) From: Jim Dixon From the sheet music at The National Library of Australia: I LOVE ME (I'M WILD ABOUT MYSELF) Words and music by Will Mahoney. [Sydney]: D. Davis & Co., 1923. New York: Broadway Music Corp., 1923. VERSE 1. When people write their songs of love, they write of one another. It's always Sis or Ma and Pa, a sweetheart, or a brother; But love songs that they've aimed at me have all gone on the shelf. I don't think that is fair, so I'll write one of myself. CHORUS 1: I love me. I love me. I love myself to death. I love me. I love me, 'til I'm all out of breath. I stop at ev'ry slot machine that I should chance to pass And give myself a hug and squeeze as I look in the glass. (Oh) I love me. I love me. I'm wild about sweet me. I love me, only me, so I'm content, you see. I like myself with such delight, I take me right straight home each night And sleep with me 'til broad daylight. I'm wild about myself. VERSE 2. I know a girl who has the boys proposing by the dozen. Among her list are rich and poor and even one lone cousin; But when she talks of love to me, I treat her with disdain. I loudly shout there's someone else, and then this wild refrain: CHORUS 2: I love me. I love me, every place I go. I love me. I love me, and at a movie show, I take myself right by the arm and push me through the crowd, And listen to myself read me the titles right out loud. (Oh) I love me. I love me. I love to squeeze my hand. I love me. I love me. It always feels so grand! With me I get right in my tub. I let myself give me a rub. Oh, how I love to feel me scrub! I'm wild about myself. CHORUS 3: I love me. I love me. I'm wild about myself. I love me. I love me. My picture's on my shelf. You may not think I look so good, but me thinks I'm just fine. It's grand when I look in my eyes and know that I'm all mine. (Oh) I love me. I love me, and my love doesn't bore. Day by day, in ev'ry way, I love me more and more. I take me to a quiet place. I put my arm around my waist. If me gets fresh, I slap my face. I'm wild about myself. |

08 Apr 13 - 06:13 PM (#3500655) Subject: Lyr Add: I LOVE ME (I'M WILD ABOUT MYSELF) From: Jim Dixon This is my transcription. I have boldfaced the words that are not in the sheet music (see above). The remainder of the words are shifted around a bit, and of course, the verses are omitted. I LOVE ME (I'M WILD ABOUT MYSELF) As sung by Mel Blanc on "Greatest Hits" I love me. I love me. I'm wild about myself. I love me. I love me. My picture's on my shelf. You may not think I look so good, but me thinks I'm just fine. It's grand when I look in my eyes and know that I'm all mine. I love me. I love me, and my love doesn't bore. Day by day, in ev'ry way, I love me more and more. Myself and me we have a fight And I can't fall asleep at night, Till I kiss me, then I'm all right. I'm wild about myself. I love me. I love me. I love myself to death. I love me. I love me, 'til I'm all out of breath. I stop at ev'ry looking-glass that I should chance to pass, And give myself a hug and squeeze as I look in the glass. I love me. I love me. I'm wild about sweet me. I love me, only me, so I'm content, you see. With me I get right in my tub. I let myself give me a rub. Oh, how I love to feel me scrub! I'm wild about myself. I think I'm just a dream. Me thinks I'm plenty keen. Ooh, I'm such a doll! For me I'm all afire. I am my one desire. I love me. I love me. I think me is a prize. I love me. I love me, 'cause me is just my size. I take me in my parlor and I sit on my settee, And then I lift myself right up and bounce me on my knee. I love me. I love me. I never leave my sight. I love me. I love me. I'm with me day and night. I take me to a quiet place. I put my arms around my waist. If me gets fresh, I slap my face. I'm wild about myself. Ooh-o0h-ooh-ooh! I tickle me! |
