Equal time for Fathers Day (songs)

Seems like we had a Mother's day thread .. in the interest of fair play:

My Dad used to sing a song called The Dummy Line which I was thrilled to find on your database with some great lyrics I had never read. I think it really was a hobo song. He had a few stanzas (right term?) which I didn't find there which I can add. Maybe they were lifted from other songs, who knows? If they pass the Mudcat review they must be legit! Here goes ....

DUMMY LINE LOST LYRICS:

I once bought a pair of combination underwear
To keep out the cold and the frizelly air
I went six months without irrigation
I couldn't get them off cause I'd lost the combination!

On the Dummy line .. etc.

I once had a gal down in Mobile
She had a face like a lemon peel
She had a wart on the end of her chin
She called it a dimple but a dimple grows in!

On the dummy line .. etc.

Three little fleas and three little mice
Sitting in the road playing a game of dice
Along came a horse and steped on the flea
Sais the flea to the mice that's a horse on me

(I think horse is a term in craps shooting ..)

I pulled this out of another thread for anyone feeling a little Deja Vu .. Anyways, Dad's gone but I can still think about what a great Dad he was!!

Great lyrics, zonahobo. I am not familiar with this song, but I'd bet your dad gathered these great verses through what is termed the "folk process." That means he heard someone else sing them and liked them, or he simply made them up. My Dad's gone too. One of his favorite's was "Old Dan Tucker." I remember him singing it when I was a kid. "Old Dan Tucker was a mighty fine man, washed his face in a fryin' pan. Combed his hair with a wagon wheel. Died with a tooth ache in his heel." Happy memories to you! Jim

A very happy Father´s Day to all. Peace, a secure job, and sons and daughters' consideration and love for them, will be the best gifts. (I'm a little pretentious)
Un abrazo - Andrés

You too, Mrzz, this is going to be a difficult one for you. But Happy Father's Day, anyway, and to all you other wonderful Dad's.

A good Dad is a great gift. Mine is 92 and just of down to London to meet up with my sister for a holiday. He is hyperactive and thinks he can add the figures in his age together and behave like that caught him climbing a metal fence last year. If a 2 year old is hyperactive there is some hope they will grow out of it what do you do when they get to 92 and still have more energy than their entire family put together?

But I wouldn't change him for any one elses dad. I wrote a few lines for him a few years ago after I had left home.

Regrets

It's often we leave it to late to say All the things we mean to say We wait till Mum and Dad have passed away. We tell them when they are no longer there Just how much we really care We always leave it just to late. Why oh why can we not say Mum and Dad I love you, While they can still hear us After all they are God's most precious gift.

Hi, zonahobo, the verses you wrote, except for the one about Mobile, are ones like we used to sing to the song "I'm a Nut".

Have a good weekend. There are alot of "oldsters" here, so many of us are having memories of fathers passed away.
