Art Thieme's gem

Buried in the thread on 50's and 60's folk groups is one of the all-time puns, made by mudcatter Art Thieme. (Don't know you Art, so I hope you don't mind) Asked to name lesser known folk groups of that era, Art's response was: "A group I was in in the 50's made up of---Elvis, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney and me. We called ourselves----Presley, Page, Rosemary and Thieme.

Kind of gets the imagination going on other possible made-up groups/puns So Mudcatters, just for the hell of it, why not give it your best shot. What others can we come up with?

I wouldn't dream of trying to compete with Art's gem (who could?). However, the kind of people who follow threads like this might have some helpful contributions for another project I'm working on - The Philosophers' Song-Book.

So far I've got:

"Plato Me, Gypsy"

"A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square"

"She Loves You A J Ayer"

"I Kant Get No Satisfaction"

"I Want Hegel, Just Like The Gel, That Married Dear Old Dad"

and of course, the Elvis classic,

"I Want Ya, I Nietzsche, I Love Ya"

Any more suggestions?

Descarte went into a bar. The bartender asked him, "Would you like a drink?" He answered, "No."

And he disappeared...

Schizophrenia beats dining alone ! ;-)

Well, this is as good a place to mention as any that I'm heading up to Rochester, Minnesota today for another oil change and maybe a lube job too. (Hopefully not another valve job.) So, if I ain't around these parts for a while, you'll know what's happening.

A grand 4th o' July to you all.

How about:

"Ach du Lieber, Augustine"

"Yes, We Have No Julia Annas"

"In My Mind I'm Reading Tom Aquinas...." (To "Carolina on my Mind")

"To Every Thing, Turing, Turing, Turing, There is an algorithm, Turing, Turing, Turing...."

"Wittgenstein, Wittgenstein, Every word is a picture, Sentences too, machines to look through, thus the world comes together...." (to "Edelweiss")

and that old blues classic: "Frege Whiff on me, Baby".

yours, Peter

Rick, I always thought the last guy was called Dark Canyon...

But surely Dark Canyon would have been a sidekick of the evil Daft Ada in Star Wars?

But if it's music related puns we're after, Les Barker's yer man, what with the Nose of Allendale, and the Trains of Waterloo, and of course that hero of the football terraces, Earwig O. (And of course Les doesn't just make the puns, he writes the songs, and gets the likes of June Tabor and Martin Carthy to sing them. And supplies the rolls of toilet paper for the spectacular finish.)

S'cuse me, Art, but surely Descartes said, "I think not," and then disappeared,

or were you counting on so many people knowing that joke by now that we'd get it anyway?

And then there's the zen buddhist hot dog stand...

Blessings,
Barbara

I would like to point out the apparent grammatical error in this thread title. I believe the article was left out and it should actually read "Art Theime's a gem". Indeed.

To Art, don't over do the Mayo days.
