I bought my excellent bodhran here in the US (over the phone) from a company called Stringed Instrument Division, (onlinr at http://montana.com/instruments). It came with a soft case, a tipper, and was under $100. Great deal for a beginner, and sounds and looks great. |

I own 2 of his drums, the 1st is now about 14 yrs old & is is in the hands of my 2 kids, my 2nd is one with Mance's sliding bar grip, the backside of my hand no longer blisters & is great for hand slapping on the drums inside, he also has a tuning ring that I don't see how I could've gone without all these yrs. His drums, I would say, are the best I've ever played & his quality is the most consistent of any drum maker I've seen. His bodhran tape is a must for any drummer (he is also a great drummer). While I am sure there are o.k. one's out there, for a slightly higher price (not that much really) you can get a good quality handmade bodhran which will last you a lifetime. Mance Grady makes nice one's as do makers in nearly every inch of the world (mine was made by Malachy 'Bodhran' Kearns from Roundstone, Ireland). I have met some bodhran makers in some fairly interesting places. Another option is to make your own which can be done and there is a good guide on the Ceolas Celtic Webpage which gives step by step instructions if you are the adventorous type. |
