I have only ever heard my father sing it this way as his grandfather sang it to him. I can only find lyrics written with Bold Daniels etc tho. I would love to see this alternate version that I heard as a child. Thanks! |

It seems to have been popular. "The Roving Lizzie", sung by Charles Finnemore in 1943, is included in our book "Songs of Ships & Sailors" p. 47. The hero is Donnelly although we have also seen Daniels. Arnold is unusual and I'm interested that Kendall also knew a version with that name. Can you post your version? best- Julia |
