Halls of Shambala

Now I'm looking for a song, Shambala, or Shamballa, perhaps The Halls of Shambala. I know it was recorded by Three Dog Night, but there was an earlier version which I preferred, but don't have the name of the artist. Thanks in advance, and thanks very much for the help on Eres Tu.

Hi, Jim - what I do on something like that is go to one of the online CD dealers, usually www.cdnow.com. In the "search" box, put the song title, but be sure to change the dropdown menu so it looks for a song title. Searching under "shambala" and "shamballah," I found several CD's which had a song with that name, including some with samples of the recording.

Shambala
(Daniel Moore, 1973)
(as recorded by Three Dog Night)

Wash away my trouble, wash away my pain
With the rain of Shambala
Wash away my sorrow, wash away my shame
With the rain of Shambala

(chorus)
Ah, ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind
On the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky, everyone is kind
On the road to Shambala

(repeat chorus)

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala

I can tell my sister by the flowers in her eyes
On the road to Shambala
I can tell my brother by the flowers in her eyes
On the road to Shambala

(repeat chorus)

How does your light shine, on the road to Shambala

I notice that there was also a recording of this song on the collection from the Kerrville Folk Festival. The song was also recorded by B.W. Stevenson

Why do I see a double entendre in the words of that song.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Being an innocent and saintly (and dense) person, I never catch on to double entendres, but I notice that the brother has flowers in her eyes, and I'll bet that's a mistake. I copied the lyrics from Lyrics World (click).

Given that Shambala is a Tibetan mystic place/ritual, anything is possible. yours, Peter T.

And what are people who come from that part of Tibet called, I wonder

Or....It wouldn't be a place where you sell holy cows, by any chance?

In the more recent series of Kung Fu David Carradine plays a modern martial arts mystic in the form of a Shambala Priest. Maybe they're the shanghied decendents of Shangarla. Barry

Barfy, I think they're called Shambaleese. I had a Shambaleese once, but it got hair all over the sofa and kept me up nights barking.
