Hey- want to see some morris dancing?

For those wanting to know more, on the Folking website I've just discovered a couple of short movies (7-11 secs) featuring Chris Leslie (of Fairport Convention) dancing and playing the fiddle at the same time, from the recent Adderbury festival. Click on Adderbury clips.

I was going to entitle the thread something to do with English trad music, but since in one of the clips the music is 'The Minstrel Boy', I thought better of it! Sounds English though, the way they play it.

BTW, scattered throughout the Folking site (excuse me?) are a Dave Pegg interview, various pics etc., with a CL interview to come as well. Pretty interesting site altogether.

I know your game, Noreen.....first you hook 'em with a little innocous folk dancing.....then, one day, oh you can't supply folk dancing today..how about a little Watersons, free,of course........then it's June Tabor and tickets to folk festivals and the address of the Mudcat Cafe, before you know it.....another folk junkie forced to live out his/her life in misery and degradation, shunned by society, selling their Beethoven albums for just one more melodeon........people like you should be stopped!!*BG*

I was chatting with a Morris dancer today in Walton, and we were speculating whether maybe there might be Morris Teams in the States that have tried using basball bats as staves. He reckoned they probably wouldn't stand up to the treatment, which is quite severe.

But if they could take the punishment, it might be a way of making the whole business seem a bit less un-American. I can just envisage this team dressed up like Babe Ruth. They'd go down a treat on a trip to Sidmouth anyway.
