15 Jul 00 - 10:38 AM (#258105) Subject: Festival Interceltique de L'Orient From: GUEST,Philippa I'm seeking some information and advice abd comments from anyone who has attended past festivals at L'Orient Is it okay just to turn up on spec, with no tickets or accommodation booked? I'd probably have my wee backpacking tent with me -- hmm, is there anywhere to store valuables, ie musical instruments? |

We just turned up on spec then, but we were camping in Northern Brittany and just travelled down for the day, so can't help you with knowledge of accommodation. cliquez ici for the English version web page for the festival. Thanks for reminding me of Lorient! --Noreen

17 Jul 00 - 03:05 AM (#259011) Subject: RE: Festival Interceltique de L'Orient From: Scabby Douglas Been to Brittany the past two years on holiday.. I love it! Get to a fest-noz if you can. We went to one last year smack-dab beside the Carnac "alignements" - the standing stones.. The locally organised/disorganised ones are best, where no admission is charged. Enjoy Lorient. |
17 Jul 00 - 07:26 AM (#259061) Subject: RE: Festival Interceltique de L'Orient From: Lena I'm one of those clever people who get to tour Brittany just the week after Lorient. I find Breton music obsessive and amazing, definitely worth swimming or running there for any possible music happening.(I'm in Australia now and it's too far) I have several recordings of fest-nozs and usually you get an amazing variety of performances, from traditional mouth music( two or more voices vocalizing dance music),to armies of bagpipes,to trash-folk,to experiments like that one of Paolo Fresu(Sardinian Trumpetist, named best European Jazz Man)and a Breton singer whose name I can't remenber who put up a fifteen piece folk/jazz orchestra years ago. Some friends I have went to perform there last year and they say it's huge. Brittany is getting fairly tourist-like,but still so pretty. It's quite agricultural and"tamed",when I went there I expected views like those ones you get in other celtic areas like Scotland and Ireland, instead all I could see were fruit plantations to make cider...no,I'm being sarcastic. The coast line is devastated by amazing sea tides and absolutely fantastic.Camping is very confortable and cheap, and one of the best transports there is the bike. Hope all this chatting will be helpful.Go there!!!!!!! Lena |
