16 Jul 00 - 10:00 AM (#258617) Subject: RE: Why is there air? From: Ed Pellow As the person who inadvertently started this spate of 'why' threads, perhaps I should answer... Over a huge period of time (long enough to be difficult for most of us to comprehend) complex chemical reactions have taken place on earth. Over huge periods of time, these chemical processes have resulted in the earth's current atmosphere, which we call 'air.' For further information, you might like to refer to this article in Encyclopaedia Britannica, which gives a lot more detailed information on the earth's atmosphere. click here The word itself has a complex history, but seems to originate from the greek word 'aer' meaning breath. I hope this is of help Ed |

16 Jul 00 - 05:58 PM (#258817) Subject: RE: Why is there air? From: Homeless Dave TAM - that about sums up my thoughts on computers. For those of you who don't know, Bill Cosby released an album many, many years ago titled "Why is there air?" One track, titled the same, which dealt with philosophy, girls, and college majors, had Bill (a PhysEd major) responding to the question when proposed by his girlfriend (a Philosophy major) with "To blow up volleyballs. Any Phys. Ed. major knows that." The gist of the track (as I remember it) was that Philosophy was kind of a waste of time. |

My Dad loves Bill Cosby, cause he's a fellow Philadelphia native. Listen to the one about the "Captain America" car...classic comedy! --Mbo |

From: Sorcha But bill/s, melodeons are not accordians.........and Mbo, my fave Bill Cosby is still "The Legendary Chicken Fairy"........I rowed a Chicken Ferry once; two canoes lashed together to resuce drowning chickens in a flood.....we got piglets and calves too. In canoes......what a visual picture, now. |
