Help: Liam Clancy record.

A friend of mine had his entire record collection stolen some time ago. The only record he has not been able to replace, and sorely misses, is a Liam Clancy L.P. He thinks it was self titled, but remembers it had Luke Kelly doing the chorus on Rocky Road to Dublin, and song called Ten and Nine. Any info on this particular record, and where he might get a copy would be much appreciated. Gotta say, this Mudcat is the most entertaining and enlightning site I know of.

many thanks, mcpiper

Liam has an album titled" Liam Clancy". This is the one you are looking for by Vanguard. I happen to have 2 copies of the album and would be glad to send one to your friend. Let me know where - contact me at Jcushnan@home,com. I live in Canada. Hate to see a collection incomplete.

Or you can get it at CAMSCO Music (800/548-FOLK). Along with just about anything that's folk and in print. If you don't mind getting them at a substantial discount.

thanks heaps to all who replied. He now has a cd on its way to him. The response has prompted me to join what I consider to be the ultimate group for the thinking musician.

From: The Lighthouse

TEN AND NINE
(As I can remember them!)

Oh dear me the mill is running fast
And we poor shifters canna get no rest
Shiftin bobbins, coarse and fine
They fairly make you work for your ten and nine

Oh dear me I wish the day was done
Runnin up and down the pass is no fun
Shiftin piece and spinnin, work (?) and twine
There's no much pleasure livin off of ten and nine

Oh dear me the world is ill divided
Them that works the hardest are the least provided
But I must lie contented dark days or fine
To feed and clothe my babies off of ten and nine

Oh dear me the mill is running fast
And we poor shifters canna get no rest
Shiftin bobbins coarse and fine
They fairly make you work for your ten and nine

I'm a little rusty on that second verse there! First verse is repeated as the fourth. This is Liam Clancy's version - if there are other words I don't know them!
Hope this helps!
PS The first 2 lines of verse 3 I think are sooooooooo true!

If you are looking for lyrics, please start a new thread, starting with LYR REQ: (it's easier to find)

The song in question is the Jute Mill Song. If you don't know the title, just enter any phrase you do know (such as [mill is running fast] or [Oh dear me]---the square brackets indicate a phrase) in the blue box at the top of the page. We have lots (over 8000) lyrics there, along with a lot of tunes.
