These two traditional songs are the basis for the lyrics used by Great Big Sea for their version of Mari-Mac. Add your own Li-diddle-li's where appropriate.

However, in any version I've ever heard sung it's the mothers who are insisting on the wedding. I think that this is how it is supposed to be because that way you get all m's making the song more difficult to sing. |
