27 Jul 00 - 04:13 PM (#265995) Subject: Yes, in concert! From: BeauDangles Sorry 'Catters, I know this isn't folk related, but I just had to tell my friends about my experience this weekend. I got to see one of my favorite bands in concert for the first time. This past Sunday, July 23rd, Yes was in concert in Northern Virginia. And Kansas was the opening band. I am still floating! These guys have been producing quality progressive rock for over 30 years--and they sound as good as ever. Better, actually. And their music still moves me. It is so much better than what passes for pop music nowadays. Jon Andersons voice is as angellic as ever. They treated us to nearly 3 hours of epic songs. They only performed 8 songs. Some of them were nearly 30 minutes long. I know it's not everybody's taste, but if you are a Yes fan, go see this show!! Obligatory pseudo-folk content: the day before I was at a Scottish games and saw Ed Miller and a celtic rock band called Bad Haggis. Pretty cool! BeauD |

I always did like Kansas and the time I saw them, Steve Morse was playing with them, and MAN were they hot. I only went to see Yes because the boyfriend wanted to go. While I can appreciate what they do, and like a few of their songs, I'm going to have to pass this time. Besides, the price of concert tickets has more than doubled in the last ten years, at least around here. |

Getting back to subject - YES!! In my days as greasy biker chick, I never had enough money to go to gigs, and would have sold my soul to go see them. One of the few current rock bands I listen to are the Goo Goo Dolls. Knowing that, think Kansas might fit my tastes? I'm curious to hear them. Can you recommend a CD of theirs as a good starting point? Thanks. Yeah, Ed Miller is the real deal in Scottish songs.
