27 Jul 00 - 06:02 PM (#266068) Subject: RE: sing me a rainbow paint me a dream From: Sorcha Maybe Sean can find this one, too!! If not, I will look. Did not find anything in DT under @rainbow. Curious, I would have thought it was a key word........ Hi, Sorcha - most songs about rainbow will have the word "rainbow" in them, so there's no need to have it as a keyword. |
27 Jul 00 - 09:00 PM (#266183) Subject: Lyr Add: DIAMONDS AND GOLD (Tom Waits) From: Dee45 Could this be it? Diamonds and Gold Tom Waits Broken glass, rusty nails where the wild violets grow Say goodbye to the railroad, the mad dogs of summer And everything that I know What some men will do here for diamonds What some men will do here for gold They're wounded but they just keep on climbing And sleep by the side of the road There's a hole in the ladder, a fence we can climb Mad as a hatter, you're thin as a dime Go out to the meadow, the hills are a-green Sing me a rainbow, steal me a dream Small-time Napoleon's shattered his knees But he stays in the saddle for Rose And all his disciples, they shave in the gutter And they gather what's left of his clothes What some men will do here for diamonds What some men will do here for gold They're wounded but they just keep on climbing And sleep by the side of the road |

28 Jul 00 - 02:25 PM (#266757) Subject: RE: sing me a rainbow paint me a dream From: GUEST,Barry T Not much of a lead I'm afraid, but I remember that tune being recorded by the Lawrie Bower Singers, a superb Canadian choral group.
One verse started something like... |
28 Jul 00 - 03:10 PM (#266782) Subject: RE: sing me a rainbow paint me a dream From: Barry T Vague memory snippets coming back...
The name of the album which included the song you're after was Feelin' Good by the Laurie Bower Singers on the Canadian Talent Library label, I believe. Laurie was the lead trombonist in the fabulous Spitfire Band (a popular Canadian big band). But he was also a brilliant vocal arranger.
This song is not a folk song, so I recommend that you also post your inquiry to other lyrics forums in other newsgroups. |

18 Jun 05 - 01:22 AM (#1503478) Subject: Lyr Add: SING ME A RAINBOW (Shel Silverstein) From: Jim Dixon This isn't the song that was asked for, but posting it here might clear up some confusion. Copied from http://www.banned-width.com/shel/works/rainbow.html SING ME A RAINBOW Words & Music by Shel Silverstein Copyright © 1972 / Evil-Eye Music Inc., NY Josie, it's been a long hard day Down the road to where it at. I must have lost my way. When I got there, they said I was too late. Now you're the only one can get me straight. So won't you sing me a rainbow, Josie. Roll me a song. Just tonight, make it right, 'cause it's been wrong for, oh, so long. There's lots of shades of darkness, Josie, deep inside a man, So sing me a rainbow if you can. The train I went to meet had come and gone. Seems like I spend all my time gettin' off and gettin' on. I sold my mind and gave my dreams away, And tomorrow I'll start lookin' 'round for yesterday, But til then... Sing me a rainbow, Josie. Roll me a song. Just tonight, make it right, 'cause it's been wrong for, oh, so long. There's lots of kinds of hunger, Josie, you don't understand, So sing me a rainbow if you can, If you can, if you can, Sing me a rainbow if you can. [Recorded by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, "Doctor Hook."] |

09 Nov 09 - 02:31 PM (#2762927) Subject: RE: sing me a rainbow paint me a dream From: GUEST,Paul Britton The song recorded by Astrud Gilberto (the Latin singer), is definitely the song with the lyrics "Sing me a rainbow, paint me a dream, Show me a world that I've never seen" that are quoted above." I believe it's the same song as the Strawberry Street Singers song from 1968, which I remember from the radio, though I don't have a copy of it. I don't know why the song as recorded by Astrud Gilberto should be attributed to Estelle Levitt and Lou Stallman. That doesn't seem right. I believe Bayer and Fischoff are the songwriters. In fact, the melody in the middle section of "Sing Me a Rainbow" sounds a lot like part of the melody of the song "98.6" (the 1967 hit for Keith), for which George Fischoff also wrote the music. |
09 Nov 09 - 02:51 PM (#2762941) Subject: RE: sing me a rainbow paint me a dream From: GUEST,Paul Britton Also, the "Sing Me a Rainbow" song as sung by the Sons of Champlin is definitely NOT the song with the lyrics "Sing me a rainbow, paint me a dream, Show me a world that I've never seen" that are quoted above." |
