Willie-O on MP3.COM II

I have finally got another song on my mp3.com site --and the site itself is back up after mysteriously disappearing for a couple of days.

The new song is (drum roll).... "The Anna Grace", which is already in Aine's Mudcat songbook, but probably none of you have heard the tune which I've never written down. I've recorded this song several times and never been completely happy with the results, although it's about the best thing I've ever written. Lyrics and anecdotal evidence are posted with the song. This take is just voice and guitar and it's demo quality (actually the original recording was digital, but mixed to cassette).

Other mp3.com stuff of interest--Nicole Leonard and her band Lothlorien, who posted on the Cat awhile ago and indirectly started the whole Tolkien/LOTR discussion, (maybe?) are doing rather well on the mp3.com charts. They aren't just top forty, they aren't even just in the top 5--they have ALL the top five songs in mp3.com world/folk category. Even the Beatles didn't quite do that.

Nicole was kind enough to put one of my tracks on her MP3.com station Ghostwood World Mix. So far this has not resulted in the cavalcade of riches I've been hoping would show up at my door one day. But there it is.

So hey, if you are wondering what to listen to while cleaning out the kitty litter box, give my new track a download or streaming audio.

Or not. Whatever. Anyway, like all my mp3.com songs, its free!

If you are new here and/or really have nothing better to do (say, you don't have a kitty litter box that needs cleaning), here's a link to the previous Willie-O MP3.COM thread(on the Mudcat that is)

I guess this thread could have used a catchier title...

Willie-O,

Thanks for the link. I downloaded a couple but have only listened to 'The Anna Grace' so far.

What a great story and a lovely melody (It's going around in my head right now and I keep breaking out into a hum).

It sounds wonderfully traditional and the guitar work is great.

You're Canadian ?

Cheers

Canadian? Of course!

Born that way. Happy accident. Thanks for the kind words. Hmmm...if my song is stuck in your head, it must be "catchy". Therefore, it must be pop in an acoustic setting. Ohmigod, I must be a dreaded NewFolk. Maybe I'm the next John Gorka. (Grin)

Not meant to be a slight, it's just that it has that feel to it that makes one think of Stan Rogers.

I played it again at lunch and its still with me so it passes the 'old grey whistle test'. Which probably means it must be pop. Don't worry I won't tell anyone ;)

Cheers

I think you did need a catchier title....like "Williw-O is Real Damn Good" or something.

Thanks Willie! Very nice my friend.

Hi, Bill (Willie O), I am listening to it now. Didn't you give us this song before in another recording? I remember hearing it before. Nice. I have that talent for thread-killing-titles, too. Anything that is serious and referring directly to music seems to have the kiss of death.

Good to hear you, good song.

I am at work and can't get it to play. Have to wait until I am home. Pretty picture though. Where is your Mudcat T-shirt?

Catching up on my responses.

I think next time I toot my horn like this I'll call it "Is Willie-O FOlk?" and then Art and Meebo can slag each other for a week or so to my direct benefit...

Gary: I'm glad you came up with the Stan Rogers connection there; the song was written in 1984, partially as a tribute (in style and content) to Stan.

Oh, maybe it was one of the mp3's I sent to Max that he did play once on Famous Mudcat Radio. I can't remember. I haven't had time recently to figure out a new recording setup--I need a better sound card or something. My old Tascam 4-track went all weird on me last time I tried to use it. (I think I used the wrong stuff to clean the tape heads--WHOOOOPS!!!)

Got word today that one of my tracks--Paddy West--is included in a new compilation Celtic CD on mp3.com, part of a series which is being produced as a fundraising effort for The Scottish National Trust.

(I don't know, sounds like a bank or something.) Anyway, here's the URL for the CD which is evocatively titled Celtic Souls 7: Traditional Slow Mix"

And that is today's commercial from Willie-O. So don't forget to shop at the Scottish National Trust, whatever it is.

I'm playing the Yellow Canoe again today, but sheesh, it's been a rainy summer for an outdoor gig.

Willie, The National Trust ( and its Scottish counterpart) is a charity funded by volunteers and some government grants, lottery money etc. which preserves stately homes and great tracts of countryside to protect them from demolition/development. Often they are handed over by "the aristocracy" in lieu of death duties, often with the toffs being allowed to live in one wing or cottage but pretend they still own it all!
They are mostly open to the public except for a couple of winter months when they do maintenance. The open lands are usually open all the time. One of the projects was "Operation Neptune" which tries to buy as much of the coastal strip as possible to prevent it being developed so people can still get access.
The Scottish one has a web page at: http://www.nts.org.uk/

Willie-O ~ What a wonderful site you have on mp3. Enjoyed every song on your page ~ really nice songs & music.

I just love songs about boats and am in the process of learning "The Anna Grace". Most likely "Paddy West" will be next. Many thanks for the great songs. Bloody good job.
