Help: Trouble loading the Kursk thread

21 Aug 00 - 05:12 PM (#281886)
Subject: Trouble loading the Kursk thread
From: GUEST,Jim

Even after rebooting and repeated attempts, I am unable to load any postings in the Karsk thread past Banjer's post of 19-Aug-00, 07:46 pm, even though I am able to load other threads of lengthier postings. Anybody got any ideas what the problem might be? Jim

Hi, Jim - I think it was Brendy's link to "The Men Behind the Guns," which was missing the closing quotation marks. I think I have it fixed. Give it another try. If there;s still a problem, post another message in this thread.
Thanks.

I had the same problem. The way I got around it is by clicking Sort Descending; that way I could read all the posts.

Ebbie, does it work OK for you now?? I need to hear from somebody who was having problems with this thread. It worked on my computer.

Hi, Joe, That fixed it. Thanks much. I'll make a note of Ebbie's cure should I encounter the problem again. Jim

If you come across a thread that's locked like that, Pene and I need to know about it so we can fix it. Best place to post reports like that is in the Help Forum, or by personal message to me or to Pene.

Yes, Joe O, all fixed. Thanks. I've encountered only one other thread before that locked up like that. From now on, I'll let you or Pene know.

Here's a problem that wasn't put in to the help forum (I'm not making any criticism about that) and Joe is not only on to it, but has it identified and sorted, within about quarter of an hour. It's some service we get on this forum.

Well, I hate to say this, but I suppose you do get quicker service if you complain about it in the main forum - even though we prefer you post tech complaints in the Help Forum. We hang out here, and check the Help Forum only a few times a day. We'd go bonkers if we sat in the Help Forum, waiting for complaints to come in.
But I'll take compliments wherever I can get 'em, Fionn. Thank you very much.

I do apologise to one and all for this inconvenience.
When I realised the link didn't work (I always go back immediately to check it), I double checked the code, and did it properly. It tends to happen me in waves, but it's the always those damned quotation marks that get me.

I now sentence myself to the bowels of the HTML thread, where I shall write:
"I must always remember to close my quotation marks when providing a link to some interesting, or otherwise, site on the internet"
one hundred times.

B.
And I wont copy and paste a single one!!!

I've run into this before. The "sort descending" trick works to a degree--the offending post (and those beyond it in whichever direction you're going, ascending or descending) still will not come up. If there's only one problem post, you can use this trick to read every post except that one.
