Someone asked for this song last year at the Village. I think he was pulling my leg. He said the song was Don't go through the screen door Granny you'll get strained. Maybe I should make up a song. Someone told me lastnite he would be back again sometime this week. What do you do with such requests?....do you have some words?..Mary

Ah, yes...I remember "Don't go through the screen door..." It was released years ago on a 45 RPM record. The flip side song was "Run to the roundhouse, Sally, the boys can't corner you there." :-)

Sorry 'bout that.

Neither song, of course, exists. About 20+ years ago, a U.S. publication, The Folk Life, ran an article about funny (?) mock song titles that performers use as between-song crowd pleasers. Both of these fall into that category.

As for what to do when some moronic heckler in the audience screams out the title of one of these fictional songs as a request, that's a different story. Good luck

Don't yell through the screen door mother you're liable to strain your voice. That's how I remember it.

Must be one of them thar country songs. You know, like (the real) "I've been flushed from the bathroom of your heart."
