So here is a link to the page where I found 108 pages of sheet music with Jenny Lind's name in the title. Jacob |

18 Sep 02 - 08:16 PM (#787092) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Does Jenny Lynn have lyrics From: Jim Dixon I think the guest was asking about the bluegrass tune "Jenny Lynn", not the famous singer Jenny Lind, the "Swedish nightingale". I have listened to several sound samples at CDNOW, and it appears to me that the versions recorded by Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, and Don Bryant are all instrumentals, a fast breakdown. But there is also a song, a sad ballad called "Jenny Lynn" written and recorded by Ron Spears, also recorded by Lou Reid & Carolina, and by Becky Schlegel & True Blue. Piecing together the sound samples, I was able to transcribe this much of the lyrics: ...before he went to war. He vowed to love and cherish her forevermore. While defending his great country in a land quite far away, Angels came and took his Jenny Lynn away. He pledged his heart to Jenny Lynn. His love for her will never end. He'll be thankful till the blessèd day they meet again. God in heaven knows how much he misses Jenny Lynn. However the tune seems totally different from the tune of the breakdown. CDNOW also lists some songs or tunes called "Jenny Lind", the "Jenny Lind Polka", "Jenny Lynn's Polka", and "Jenny-Lynne", but I didn't listen to those. |

I am not aware of any lyrics and have none in my collection. I have started putting some fiddle lyrics on my website: Click here Richie

15 Sep 11 - 09:17 PM (#3223895) Subject: Lyr Add: JENNY LYNN (Ron Spears) From: Jim Dixon JENNY LYNN As sung by Ron Spears From the album "My Time Has Come" (Copper Creek 169) CHORUS: He pledged his heart to Jenny Lynn. His love for her will never end. He'll be thankful till the blessèd day they meet again. God in heaven knows how much he misses Jenny Lynn. She was the sweetest girl who ever come his way. Yes, his thoughts are all still of her ev'ry night and day. They met while the springtime flowers were in bloom, Dancin' to an old-time fiddle tune. They were married just two days before he went to war. He vowed to love and cherish her forevermore. While defendin' his great country in a land quite far away, The angels came and took his Jenny Lynn away. CHORUS Now she rests in a grave upon the mountainside, And he made himself a promise on the day she died That his heart would never belong to another. He'd be true till they were both at rest together. CHORUS Fifty years have passed and now he's old and gray, But he makes that painful climb to Jenny ev'ry day, And he tells her that the angels will be comin' for him soon. They'll again be dancin' to that old-time fiddle tune. CHORUS He pledged his heart to Jenny Lynn. |
