I dropped my bubble gum in the sand and I had to throw it away. I got out bed, scratched my watch, and wound my head. I'm so mixed up I just can't think. I'm gonna put a bar in the back of my car and drive myself to drink. More?

04 Mar 07 - 11:03 AM (#1985812) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: drive myself to drink From: GUEST,Victor Johansen I have been looking for the words to this song for years. The chords are basically the same as Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. I have written several verses myself but would love to find out who wrote it and more verses. |
04 Mar 07 - 02:00 PM (#1986011) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: drive myself to drink From: Peace Hate to bring bad news, but 'I'm Gonna Put a Bar in the Back of my Car and Drive Myself to Drink From the album "Fear of Frying" by a Marin County (California) band called "Eggs Over Easy", around 1968 (courtesy of Mark) Unfortunately, according to Eric, "After years of searching, I have finally obtained a copy of the album "Fear of Frying" by the Marin County band "Eggs Over Easy". And, I must report, there is no song titled "I'm gonna put a bar in the back of my car and drive myself to drink" Nothing even remotely similar. Nor does this line, or anything similar to this line, appear in any song on the album. Still, it's a great title.' It may be a title without a song. |

The room is empty The lights are dim And my heart wonders If I'll ever see you again My tears are hungry For an open door When your arms held me I never felt that way before I'll be waiting I'll be watching Under a blue moon The taste of heaven Only happens Once in a blue moon Once in a blue moon Do you remember When the wind blew free And we fit together So naturally I'll be waiting I'll be watching Under a blue moon The taste of heaven Only happens Once in a blue moon Once in a blue moon |

11 Jan 11 - 10:01 PM (#3072614) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Bar in My Car (Eggs Over Easy) From: Jim Dixon According to Allmusic.com Eggs Over Easy's album "Good 'n' Cheap," originally issued in 1972, was reissued as a CD, with bonus tracks, in 2006 by Hux Records. BAR IN MY CAR is on this reissue. (I can't tell whether it is one of the bonus tracks that was not on the original.) Allmusic says that BAR IN MY CAR was written by Austin DeLone & Brian Hopkins, members of the band. There is a sample, but I can't transcribe it right now. Evidently it is not the same song as PUT A BAR IN MY CAR, recorded by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band—although I'd bet both songs were based on the same joke. |

From: Jim Dixon PUT A BAR IN MY CAR As recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on "Ricochet" (1967) I just talked to the weatherman. It's gonna rain on me today. I dropped my bubble gum in the sand And I had to throw it away. I got out o' bed, Scratched my watch and wound my head. I'm so mixed up that I can't think. I'm gonna put a bar In the back o' my car And drive myself to drink. There's a little black cloud rainin' down on my head,* Washin' all my dreams away. Every stop light I see turns red. I guess it just ain't my day. I might as well give up. My mind's an empty cup. I'm a ship gettin' ready to sink. I'm gonna put a bar In the back o' my car And drive myself to drink. [* Reminds me of the Al Capp character, Joe Btfsplk.] |
