Yogi Jorgensen? (Yogi Yorgesson)

A friend has asked me to find a Swedish country singer of, I suppose, the 1940s or 1950s called Yogi or Jogi Jorgensen. Can anyone help, and if possible tell me where to get one of his records?

This friend is from a gloomy family whose entertainment used to be to sing, in five-part harmony, songs like "The Dungeon is Deep" or "I Traced Her Little Footprints In The Snow". She's also looking for a song about which she can only remember that it was about a cowboy by a river (dying, I think, but maybe that's just a normal assumption given her family's musical proclivities) and there was a dappled white horse involved. If anyone can follow this trail of clues and come up with a song I'd be grateful.

I know he also did a parody of Davy Crockett, called Ole Swenson, that I've been looking for for my father. I think his first name might be Jorgy(?)

Jorge Jorgensen lived in Rockford Illinois. He wrote:

I yust go nuts at Christmas
Yegal Bells
Ve got troubles
All pooped out
The PTA

A song about being drafted into the army by truman and many others.

If you really want the words I think I could find them but they are not worth the searching.

That gave me some help, and a search came up with this:

http://www.boreson.com/albums.htm

which includes Yust Tinkin' Of Yogi

Mrs. Yonson Turn Me Loose, Nincompoops Have All the Fun, Real Gone Galloot, The Picnic Song, Little Grass Shack, Ballad of Ole Swenson, Neida, Nei Takk, Lonesome Loverboy, Little Knucklehead, The Object of My Affection, Vat Skal Ve Do

Is this the right thing? I've never heard this, umm, artist, so don't know if it is or not.

I have a 45 of Yogi Yorgesson doing "Yingle Bells" and "I Yust go Nuts at Christmas". My wife's Mom, who is from a Swedish family, remembers her father loving to play these songs at Christmastime. They're mild spoofs of being Swedish-American, with a recurring motif being all J's pronounced as Y's.

Doing a quick check on the web, I found that someone listed his first name as "Yorgi", someone said his real name was Harry Stewart, and these are a few of his other hits:
Nincompoops Have All The Fun
Little Gray Shack
Cookies Pie and Cake
A Letter From Harry
The Picnic Song
Ya Sure, Please Excuse Me
Who Hide The Halibut On The Poop Deck
Come Straight Home Tonight
The Egg Laying Contest
Ballad of Ole Swenson

Go to google.com (a great online search engine), type in "Yogi Yorgesson", and you'll see 156 websites to get more info from. I would not have classified him as a country singer, but then I'm only familiar with his two Christmas songs I mentioned above. I'd be shocked if there's another performer with a similar name, so I have to believe we're all talking about the same person.

The spelling of the name I used is what's written on the 45 label. If you have access to a music store that carries 45 oldies, you can probably find a copy of it during the holiday season (in the U.S., anyway). It's also likely to be on some Christmas collection albums and/or comic song albums, such as Dr. Demento's--I think I saw him mentioned on a website during my brief search.

Hope this helps, and have fun!

My Grandmother had one of Jorge's records on a 78 and it contained the "egg laying contest" and a very funny number called the "snoring song." It was funny stuff back in the more innocent 50's, IMHO.

Visit www.yogiyorgesson.com for extensive information about Yogi Yorgesson/Harry Stewart (born Harry Skarbo). The webmaster of that site may even be able to tell you where to pick up some decent quality CDs/DVDs of Yogi/Harry. Harry is of Norwegian descent. My great grandmother was his aunt Pauline Skarbo. Harry was a pioneer in ethnic/scandinavian humor and many artists such as Stan Boreson covered (and continue to cover) his work. In addition to his Yogi Yorgesson character, he performed as country bumpkin Claud Hopper, asian singer Harry Kari, and the German character Klause Hammerschmidt. One of my favorite Harry songs, "She's Got Freckles on Her but, She's Nice". Was pirated and recorded by another artist and Harry also wrote for many other performers such as Mel Blanc. Harry actually had quite an illustrious career in the days of radio.

Is there a CD or cassette tape available with Jorge Jorgensen's Christmas music from the late-1940's to early-1950's, i.e., I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas, etc?

Steve Howard, the apparent owner of the www.yogiyorgesson.com web site, is offering CDs for sale. The web site doesn't describe them very well; he wants you to contact him by phone or email. Click the link to see a discography and contact information.

Hey, you wouldn't be related to Howard Viken, would you?

This chap's real name is Stan Boreson. He is from Seattle, Washington...

As Kay Kayser used to say, "That's right, you're wrong."

The earlier posters are correct. The man's name was Harry Stewart, he was from Rockford, Illinois. His song "I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas" was COVERED by Stan Boreson, who has been doing Swedish dialect songs for a long time, and quite well, but he is not, nor ever has been Yogi Yorgensen.

Harry's widow Gretchen and Jim "Fibber McGee" Jordan, also an Illinoisan, from my home town of Peoria, married after the death of Jim's wife Marian ("Molly").
