12 Sep 00 - 05:45 AM (#295543) Subject: Manx Song? By the storm torn shoreline.. From: Kathmandoobiedoo Hey there, this is Kathmandoobiedoo. I was wondering if anyone has some information about this song I heard on a silly wizard album. By the storm torn shoreline a woman is standing the spray strung like jewels in her hair and the sea tore the rocks near that desolate landing as though it had known she stood there
Is it a Manx song? Does anyone know who wrote it? What its title might be? Its history? Anyway our neighbours have been doing a seven day worship for Krishna and each day we are hearing songs to Krishna, while the pandit tells stories for hours... stories about Krishna's life, Shiva, Buddha, and Local Newari tales, etc...It's wonderful that these traditions are kept alive! 12 Sep 00 - 08:14 AM (#295571) Subject: RE: Manx Song? By the storm torn shoreline.. From: guinnesschik It's called "The Fisherman's Wife." Can't get to my copy of the CD to see who wrote it, but I believe that it's tradional. There is a Silly Wizard website, lots of good informaton on the band and lyrics. |

If the lyrics that you have are different in any way I would be glad to see them as well as any information about the song that the sleeve notes give you. Thanks. |

12 Sep 00 - 07:50 PM (#296073) Subject: RE: Manx Song? By the storm torn shoreline.. From: Susanne (skw) This is what it says on the sleeve of 'Wild & Beautiful': [1981:] In recent times, the North Sea has exacted a terrible toll of lives from the small fishing-ports of the North-East of Scotland, with boats being lost every year. The effect this has on a tiny town is nothing short of catastrophic. Andy lived for a time in the fishing port of Buckie, and has written this song as a tribute to the courage of the fishermen and their families, although it is primarily a condemnation of the circumstances and pressures that force them into such a hazardous profession. (Notes Silly Wizard, 'Wild & Beautiful') |

I wonder why I thought it was Manx. Funny how an idea gets stuck in your mind. I'm curious Gypsy, which sea do you live by? I miss the sea... Willow |

13 Sep 00 - 09:27 AM (#296367) Subject: RE: Manx Song? By the storm torn shoreline.. From: A Wandering Minstrel Sophocles Thats the very song. The sleevenotes on the Cripps album say "Stewart arr. Cripps 3'20"" and thats all I'm afraid. Still a lovely song which goes nicely in Am/F. I must start singing it again. |
