If it would be okay for you to put software on your office computer, or if you have access to another computer, you could try Noteworthy Composer, which lets you print out sheet music scores. It will import a midi file. It's shareware, $40 US or something like that.

Vincenzo, I'm sorry I can't help you with your query, but I can say a big big welcome to Mudcat, especially on behalf of all the Italians on this forum. Fedele will be particularly glad to welcome you, as he has been the only Italian living in Italy on this forum for some time. Benvenuto!

Callie

Dumb question--does ABC notation work in languages other than English? Does the Italian (etc) language use its own alphabet to notate music? I would assume so, and if so, then a person must need to understand the English alphabet in order to understand ABC notation. Only a small problem, right? Hmmmmmmmm. Requires some thought.

I don't know either of these, but it could come up again, with tunes I do know.

the tune for Hicks the pirate is "The rose Tree" - see this site:http://ecf-guest.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/TuneFind?P=rose

seems to fit.

Vincenzo, I don't know about "Hicks The Pirate" but "Whip Jamboree" or "Whup Jamboree" is on at least one recording of the Liverpool Folk Group " The Spinners". The show was recorded live in Liverpool in I believe the Philarmonic Hall or some place like that.

Vincenzo,

"Whip Jamboree" was also recorded by Marek Siurawski, Hughie Jones and Stormalong John. You can get some CDs and tapes with their music from one of these online shops. Here you can find info about some recordings: Hughie Jones (click), and Stormalong John (click). If you choose to order them, you can do it here: http://chanteycabin.co.uk

This is what I found on the net. I've never ordered CDs this way and can't tell how reliable such shops are. Anyway, you have some more titles now. Hope it'll help.

I have an MP3 of Whip Jamboree sung by my brother when he was with Lime Bay Mutiny, I don't know if this will help if you are using a computer at work. I could send it to you if you want it but I would require your email address.

A fine, if raucous, version is sung by the Boarding Party on their 'Tis Our Sailing Time, available now as a cassette (with booklet) or, in about two weeks, as a CD with complete notes and song texts, from Folk-Legacy Records. Check on it by clicking here.

I was referring to "Whup Jamboree," folks. The version on the Boarding Party recording is titled "Bristol Channel Jamboree," but it's the same song.
