Help: Dulcimer books arranged by modes

I have been working in "Larkin's Dulcimer Book" and its great. Does anyone know of more songbooks with traditional music that are arranged according to the different modes? Like a section for Dorian, a section for lydian, etc. I am looking for traditional folk and mountain music. Thanks in advance.

The Dulcimer Shoppe in Mountain View publishes a book "Four and Twenty" which is supplied with the dulcimers they make which has 24 songs with modes listed. I believe the Jean Ritchie Dulcimer book which can also be obtained from the Dulcimer Shoppe lists the modes of the songs. They do not have sections for each mode, as I remember, but you can easily find the various modes in each book. The Dulcimer Shoppe's address is PO Box 1230, Mountain View, AR 72560 and phone is 870-269-4313. I think they have a website as well.

As best I remember, the Jean Ritchie book groups them by "tunings" with a mention of the mode. BTW, Catspaw listed a wonderful link to dulcimer (and other) music books sometime last spring, but I couldn't find the thread or the link. Maybe he'll check in and visit this thread.

Check with Mel Bay at www.melbay.com or try Music Folk in St. Louis at www.musicfolk.com. Plenty of printed materials are available, but I'm not aware of any that are sorted strictly by mode. Larkin's is one of the best though, it's the one we recommend and provide for beginners in our local group. The others will have different songs and some additional instruction.

Lois Hornbostel has a couple of books of fiddle tunes on the dulcimer (both published by Mel Bay) wherein I think the tunes are listed by tuning, though not necessarily by mode. I don;t have them with me right now, so i can't recall the exact titles. I've certainly used them both a lot, though. Let me know if you want the exact titles.
