My father once mentioned the title of a gospel hymn given to him by a divinity student who had grown up attending tent revivals in Arkansas. The title, "Put Your Snout to the Spout Where the Gospel Comes Ou!t", has always stuck with me (how could such a mellifluous metaphor NOT stick in one's mind???), but I've never been able to find anyone who would ever admit to having heard of it, much less who knew the lyrics.

My dad and I would both be pleased (and not a little amazed) if anyone has more information about it. Thanks!

PUT YOUR SNOUT TO THE SPOUT WHERE THE GOSPEL COMES OUT appears on the album "From an Okie Boy to the Loup River: 1975-2005" by Dr. John Walker. You can hear a generous sample at CDBaby. Here's what I think I hear:

Put your snout to the spout where the gospel come out.
All get glory drunk.
Ah, get yourself a snoot of that glory toot
And we'll never have so much fun.
Get your father and your mother and your sister, too.
Grab you brother, boys, and here's what we'll do:
We'll put our snout to the spout where them gospel come out.
All get glory drunk.

There's some people I know livin' just down the road.
I need a shot o' glory brew.
They're always fussin' an' a-fightin' an' a-messin' around
Gettin' all worked up in a stew(?)
They need to call them a doctor ...(?)
If they call me up, Lordy, here's what I'll say:
Just put your snout to the spout where them gospel come out
All get glory drunk.

[By the way, there's some fine guitar playing on that recording, too.]
