I thought some of you might enjoy this. When I tried to post as a lyric add the combined title Jesus Loves Me(The Cat Came Back) kept jamming the search engine. I guess computers have trouble with some types of humor. I hope someone else enoys it, 'cause I've had great fun with it.


JESUS LOVES ME (The Cat Came Back)

Chorus:
Jesus loves me, this I really know-ow-ow
Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me soooo
Jesus loves me, Today and everyday.

1. One day some families brought their kids to meet with Jesus Christ.
The disciples said," Get back, He's a busy man tonight…."
But Jesus said." Come unto me, I love the children so…"
He blessed them and said," Follow where the little children go…"

2.One day He went to Temple and the merchants were all there.
The peddlers and the vendors had all set up their wares….
He tipped over the tables and sent them on their way
This was a House of God a place where we should pray….

3. One day when Jesus visited with friends, or so I've heard
Martha worked and cooked while Mary listened to The Word
Martha felt abused alone ~ strong words to her did tell
But Jesus said His Word comes first , sit down and listen well….

4. A man was traveling far on a long and lonely road,
Was beaten by some thieves, alone and far from home…
A Priest walked by, and a Levite man, they didn't help at all
A Samaritan then carried him---and helped till he stood tall

5. Once there was a Shepard with many many sheep
He cared for them each day, even in his sleep
One day a lamp it strayed away, it seemed forever lost
But the Shepard searched by night and day, he didn't mind the cost…



Song was written when the Vacation Bible School Curriculum music I was asked to lead was so insipid as to be insulting… I couldn't sing it never mind teach it… So in a bit of a snit this was written. Kids respond to the tune as if it's subversive….Folk Theology.

Tinker-- I really like it! Do you have others? I noticed you are somehow connected to the Newark Episcopal Dioscise ( I really can't spell, sorry) is this the Newark in NJ? I lost my-- well let's just say I --heck, I can't think of a delicate way to say I lost my virginity in the Parsonage of an Episcopal Church close to Newark. (My boyfriends best friend was the Pastor's kid, and we were all over there one evening before I moved to Calif. It was actually rather sweet. Don't know where his folks were at the time....)

I like the Doc Watson piece, now I just have to hear it.
Thanks Praise, it's a fun song to add verses to and it definately works in groups. The chorus is a fast pick up.
Susan in California, I'm afraid to find out how old you are. Til about six years ago we had teenage boys in our rectory. They went to Newark Academy??? But its more than I really need to know.
There are a couple of other pieces I've played with I'll try to post when I get some time.

Tinker, let's just say that this occured in the late 1970's when I was 18. And my sweetie was not Episcopal, just his friend and his parents. Also, not in Newark, in a nearby town--head up Bloomfield Ave about 4 towns, I think, hang a left at a beautiful ancient oak tree and go south a couple of blocks :-) Haven't robbed any cradles lately, so no worries!
