21 Sep 00 - 12:19 AM (#301982) Subject: Rose -- Campfire round From: GUEST,Anne Moffa [ annecat_@hotmail.com ] I was wondering about the song "Rose," which I've sung at Girl Scout camps for as far back as I can remember. I love finding all the different versions of camp song lyrics that I can, and I'm especially curious about this song. The extent of what I know is as follows:
Rose, Rose, Rose, Rose
Ding, dong, ding, dong, (This one I'm not sure about, nor do I like it very much in keeping with the rest of the song -- I think a whole set of new verses was made for the song at one time, about various bible virtues; this is the only one I know)
Love, love, love, love HOWEVER, one time I heard somebody sing it differently, where the first verse was the same as the one above, but after that it changed. It went on to tell some story about a girl forced to marry, and maybe dying . . . I'm not sure. It was rather more dark and medieval than what I have here. Has anybody heard this other version that could give me the lyrics? Or if anyone knows yet another set of lyrics to this song, I'd greatly appreciate anything you can offer. ~Anne. |

Click here for the first one, and follow the links to the others. Don't know if the specific song you're looking for is there. I like the tune - it's kind of haunting. -Joe Offer- |

For future reference, should I be hunting through the old threads before posting here? I'm not a member, so I'm not sure what the usual procedure is. Should I become a member? I don't know a lot of folk music, but I really like it, and your site is the best place for me to find things out. Would you prefer that people frequenting your site join up? Thanks again -- ~Anne. |

There are several way s to search. I would suggest reading the teal perma-thread at the top of the page, titled "MudCat FAQ - Newcomer's Guide" - there is a wealth of information in there about the 'Cat, 'Catters, how to do things on the 'cat and other things |

Registration is free, with no strings attached - we're just here for the fun of it. You can check on the benefits of membership in our FAQ/Newcomers' guide thread. We try to stay away from rules, but I guess it's better to search first to see if there's an existing thread on your topic, and then to post your question on the existing thread (if there is one). That tends to help the discussions stick together, and that can make things a little more interesting. -Joe Offer- |
17 Jul 05 - 12:50 AM (#1522730) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rose -- Campfire round From: Haruo Is there some reason why the sequence of posts in this thread has been Osterized®? I was confused when Joe addressed someone who had not (yet) posted, but then when I looked at the dates and times of posts I saw that the order was mostly but not entirely backwards... Haruo PS If this doesn't show up as the last (bottom) or last (top) post in the thread, it will be cause for concern |

I will marry at thy will sire, At thy will. I wont be my father's Jack, I wont be my mother's Jill, I will lead a fiddler's life And fiddle at thy will. Ding, dong, ding, dong, Wedding bells on an April morn Carve your name on a moss-covered stone On a moss-covered stone A poor bird, Take thy flight, High above the sorrows, Of this sad night |
