Help find name of French Rap tune

Subject: Help: Want to find name of French tune
From: M.Ted

There was a popular rap tune in France several years back by a group from Marseilles called IAM--the curious thing about it was that the vamp that they used for it was the famous Pacelbel canon--I have been unable to find the name of this song, as French people that I know either don't know the group or don't know the Pacelbel canon--I know that this is a long shot, but I have been trying to find this for a long time, without success--Anybody?

Oh, tell me it's not true! From the land of Haute Couture, of lemon souffles, Corot and Manet, the fountainhead of Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau D'Yquem-- Rap? Rap? Oh, no!!

Dave,

It is also the land of Johnny Hallyday--"The French Elvis", need I say more?

I looked around, MTed, and couldn't find a thing. Probably somewhere, in French... This is no help, but I did read that Coolio sampled the same stuff in 'C U When U Get There.' Good luck:)

I have actually spent time in French record stores trying to get an answer to this, and haven't gotten anywhere--I can't even hum it, because you can only hum one of the melodies at a time, and one their own, you can't tell what the song is--

Maybe next time I go to France, I'll have to take a CD of the canon, and go to a record store--but there has to be an easier way to find this out!

Cheaper than going to France would be to buy all of IAM's cds, though. ;)

Can't get them all here--in fact, I have never actually seen any here--in France, CD's often cost 210 Francs, which is about $30--and imports often include a surcharge, so anything other than a laser-targetted purchase would be expensive--and then you'd have to listen to hours of French Rap--not necessarily easy, especially when you have marginal ability to understand French--

I think you're reffering to the song «Je danse le Mia»; it's the only one I know from them, and it was their biggest hit. (But I really don't know what means/what is Pacelbel canon).

Sorry for the romantics who thought that the history of France stopped in the 20's... Some things turned bad there, like everywhere else...

The Pacelbel canon is a piece of early classical that has been used to excess in films, television commercials, children's dance recitals--most people would recognize it, but(and this is part of my problem) don't know its name.

The piece itself is based on a distinctive four measure melody that descends, scale-wise. The piece repeats this phrase with superimposed melodies and counter melodies that are variations of the original melody--the tempo is very stately, and the time signature is 4/4.

I am not sure if "Je danse le Mia" is the song I am looking for, because about three years ago, made the record clerk in a Carrefour play bits of each track on a "Greatest Hits" CD and it was not there.

WAIT--SIMON-PIERRE!!I have a great idea--send me your e-mail address and I will send you a MIDI file of the Pacelbel Canon!! Then you can play it, and tell me if it is the same song!!
