Sometimes JUST the hymn you need comes wafting along and you know you were meant to sing it. Here is the one I discovered on Saturday. It's from the great partnership of Fanny Crosby (1820-1915) and William Doane (1832-1915). I'm sorry I can't post melodies yet.

(I'll post chords later this week so don't harvest it right away, Joe!)

Now this is written to be in 4-4, but we did it in 6-8, and if I learn how to post melodies that's how I'll post it. It's so pretty.... look at the third verse....

RESCUE THE PERISHING
(words by Fanny Crosby, 1820-1915;
music by William Doane, 1832-1915)

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave.
Weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen;
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

REFRAIN

Rescue the perishing! Care for the dying!
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive.
Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe.

Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore.
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Chords that were broken will vibrate once more!

Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide.
Back to the narrow way patiently win them;
Tell the poor wanderer a Savior has died.

Lovely words indeed!!
I think Fanny Crosby was such a wonderful hymn writer. Apparently she wrote over 9,000 hymns!!!
An excerpt from a biography page says....
Although blinded by an illness at the age of 6 weeks, she never became bitter. One time a preacher sympathetically remarked, "I think it is a great pity that the Master did not give you sight when He showered so many other gifts upon you." She replied quickly, "Do you know that if at birth I had been able to make one petition, it would have been that I should be born blind?" "Why?" asked the surprised clergyman. "Because when I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior!"

One remarkable woman!!
Praise....thank you for reminding us of her.

best wishes, Yvonne

Quincy, that was a wonderful link you gave me in a PM. Could you post it here please, and is it already in the LINKS section? If not, I hope you will put it there too!

Looks like Cyber Hymnal has quite a bit on Fanny Crosby, plus a MIDI for this song.
