great site! I ned the lyrics to an obsure humor song about a worker who has a hilarious set of coincidences happen to him in an accident at work and ends in a letter to his boss saying " so I hope you'll under stand why I won't be in to work today". Has anyone heard of this

Hi - we have it in our database, just click here. Note the "Click to play" link at the bottom of the lyrics, which indicates we also have the tune.

Hi< Sorry, I pressed the wrong button. I first heard the excuse song long before I listened to folk music on a record by Gerard Hoffnung ( he of musical cartoons fame )and I believe it was called the Bricklayers Lament. It was performed as a poem along with other humorous poems such as A french Widow In Every Bedroom ( based on misprinted guide books )unfortunately I no Longer have the record and can't say whether Hofnung wrote the poem. I haven't managed to aquire a copy of the record yet but am still looking

Gerard Hoffnung Live at the Oxford Union. My parent's had/have a copy of this record. I'll see if its still around and then, if you're in dire straits Chris, I could get a tape made of it for you.

HI Sophocleese and thank you. If practical and poss that would be great. What always puzzles me is where do all the records I used to have go 'cos I don't remember throwing them away or lending them and not getting them back.
