26 Aug 02 - 07:08 PM (#771981) Subject: Put Me In Your Pocket From: GUEST I'm searching for the earliest version of this song, written by W. Lee O'Daniel in 1933. I've tracked down many version, most recently on Merle Haggard's Peer Session album. All are slightly diff, with Merle's being the most different. O'Daniel and his band recorded it on Vocalion 4049 in 1937, but I haven't been able to get audio of that recording. As far as I know, this is the earliest and only recording by the composer. Thanks for any help. |

I'm one of those who doesn't care who did it first, or who writ it... All I know is my mom sang it to us when we were kids... Every night, she'd sit by the window, play her guitar, and sing us to sleep. And this was one of the songs she'd sing. Well, she died last week, and I'd like to sing a few of "her songs" at her memorial service, and I didn't remember all the words to it. All I can remember is her clear bell-like voice, and this beautiful little song. Thanks, guys. |
