Greetings! I am looking for the Gaelic words to the Scottish song, "Far Am Bi Mi Fhein", also called "Dancing on the Sand." I've searched the web without success. Does anyone know where I can find them? Thanks!

Hello Gracie! You can get the lyrics here at Mudcatter George Seto's site. Cheers!

I'll have to work out the translation. I DON'T know where that Dancing in the Sand comes from, but we'll see.

There is stuff about pipers, fiddlers, Shepherds, etc, but nothing mentioning dancing. It IS a dance tune, played by fiddlers and pipers, as well as the port (Gaelic for ditty), that I know.

Gracie, George Seto's site it fantastic for all things Scots-Gaelic! He used to have a link for a Donald MacDonald who, if you need help with pronounciation, will help you out. He's a native speaker and a wonderful guy. I learned Far Am Bi from him and it was most helpful:) Have fun. Cheers, Nancy

I remember the translation as "walking in the sand"

a verse does say "walking on the sand" The meaning of the title/chorus is more like "wherever I am". I once translated some of this song for Mudcat

Philippa, thanks. I hadn't seen that message before. I'll amend it in the next few days.

Nancy, I assume you must be from Montreal, then?
I still do have a link to Donald's site. It's one of the best.

Nancy, it could be you couldn't find my link to Donald's page since I shuffled the Gaelic Songs pages.

The main base page is at

There you go, Philippa. I made an addition to the chorus part of the song. Have a look.

Just noticed that the Geocities changed the thing a bit...
