Was out at an Irish dance tonight and heard a group sing this lovely song by Merle Haggard that I'd forgotten.(couldn't find it in the database)

Today I started loving you again

Chorus:
Today I started loving you again
I'm right back where I've really always been
I got over you just long enough to let my heartache mend
And then today I started loving you again

What a fool I was to think I could get by
With only these few million tears I've cried
I guess I should have known the worst was yet to come
And the crying time for me had just begun

Repeat Chorus Twice

Today I started loving you again
Today I started loving you
Today I started loving you again

I'm just so sentimental!! best wishes, Yvonne

Chesterton wrote somewhere that sentimentality is simply having feelings and not troubling to invent a new way of expressing them.

Good one, Yvonne! I remembered that this song is on a Jonathan Edwards LP that I used to play very often (many years ago). After reading your thread, I had to pull it out and listen again. It made me feel like dancing, too.
Sounds like you had a lovely time.
best wishes,
Mary

Stewie -- love that quote. And, ya know, sometimes, that's just fine. We can't all be always inventing. ...

I'm in the mood for a two-step now ...

I happen to have met Merle Haggard at one of his shows at Tramps in NYC... Wonderful, caring, sincere man... and one of the most mature and thoughtful songwriters ever... Big City, Mama Tried, Daddy Frank (The Guitar Man), Okie From Muskogee and a ton more... Those are just some of the hits (He's had 42 number one's)... a real American treasure, that Hag...

Hi Mary so you were getting sentimental too? Haven't heard Jonathon Edwards singing it though? By the way, nice to see you are now a fully fledged member!!

I'm green with envy GP.....he certainly has a way with his words doesn't he?

best wishes, Yvonne

Gospel Picker......

My all-time favorite is "I Wonder if they ever Think of Me." I still sometimes have a little trouble getting all the way through it.

My experience in life being what it was, "Mama Tried" is a VERY significant song for me... It's as though 'ol Hag wrote it about me... I even spent time in prison at 21 (but not life without parole) on my birthday... It's only because God loves me and forgave me that I can go on with my life and God allowed me to find that song right about the time I was beginning to look for ways to express myself emotionally and work throught the healing process... I thanked Merle for it and he was touched... Hag really does care that his songs mean something to people... it's a refreshing change from the average "Screaming Meemie and the BloodSuckers" band...
