18 Oct 00 - 01:17 PM (#321897) Subject: Computer Assistance needed, pleeease From: Metchosin Alright sorry its a Mac, but maybe someone here can help me. We recently set my 82 year old father-in-law up with a computer and he's really having fun with it. The only problem so far seems to be that he is having difficulty reading the print when he uses an internet search engine. I can increase the font sizes for the icons on his dektop and other stuff, but is there some way of increasing the font size for search results for Google or other search engines? I've promised to go help him out this morning, but I have been unable to figure out how to do it here on my own machine, so I think I may not be much help to him either. Talk about the halt leading the blind. |

Then go to Tools/Internet Options, then click on Accessibility, then check "Ignore Font Sizes specified on Web pages". MudGuard/MudBeard |

I think there is something similar on Netscape under the view menu. I'm not sure if this applies to older versions of browsers. cori

I pushed what I thought the instructions meant on my keyboard and nothing happened. Duh. |

18 Oct 00 - 02:21 PM (#321966) Subject: RE: Help: Computer Assistance needed, pleeease From: jeffp In Netscape, pull down the Edit Menu and select Preferences. This will bring up a dialog box. On the left-hand side you will see a list of categories. Click on Fonts (under Appearance at the top of the list). Here you can select the default sizes for the fonts. Select a suitably-sized font here and then click the top one of the three buttons in the lower half of the window. It says, "Use my fonts, overriding page-specified fonts." That should take care of it. Some pages may look a little weird after that, but that's the price you pay sometimes for ignoring the page designer's decisions. If it allows you to read it, the price is small indeed. Hope this helps. jeffp |
