18 Oct 00 - 02:37 PM (#321982) Subject: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Little Hawk Okay, folks, here it is (and I finally stooped to using the prefix "BS"...reluctantly): It's an aftereffect of lovemaking between Father Sky and Mother Earth...a cosmic-terrestrial orgasm. Cool, eh? Though, of course, it is quite inconvenient to get caught in the crossfire, as it were... By carefully charting the prevalence of earthquakes in certain regions, and the strength thereof, one can soon achieve a good understanding of where the erogenous zones of the Earth lie...and on this basis, one can decided to live in a safer location...or build stronger buildings. The latter is cool if you want to be right at the center of the action, so to speak. Call it a smaller, more localized version of the Big Bang. Any comments, Wolfgang? |

Then sit back, take a few more hits, and contemplate the meaning of "Space Oddity" and "Skip to my Lou" when sung together by a chorus of bleating sheep. Don't forget the postage. Spaw |
18 Oct 00 - 03:19 PM (#322022) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: jeffp I thought this was going to be a continuation of the Spaw and Vegemite thread. jeffp |

18 Oct 00 - 05:10 PM (#322125) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: mousethief I always figured we could prevent earthquakes -- the ones caused by a sudden release of pressure along a fault line, anyway -- by lubricating the place where the tectonic plates come together. Then they could slide smoothly, a little each day, instead of getting hung up and then releasing with a jolt, which is what an earthquake is. Thus if this father sky/mother earth thing were true, then (not wishing to get graphic here) he would --um-- the liquid which --er-- well, there would be all the lubricant you could ask for, and thus no earthquakes. Thus I must respectfully say I don't believe your hypothesis.

18 Oct 00 - 05:24 PM (#322141) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: catspaw49 So how do you calculate the amount of K-Y required to prevent said earthquakes? This is possibly the dumbest thread we've had. This is dumber than the "Why" thing, the Vegemite crap, and the guy who asked for songs he might be able to play acoustically that people would like.....combined. Spaw

18 Oct 00 - 05:28 PM (#322147) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: mousethief This from the man who insulted me for saying another thread was stupid. Time to change your shorts, Spaw.

18 Oct 00 - 06:01 PM (#322170) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: hesperis Spaw - you have to forgive the effects of a whole weekend of Sacred Circle Dancing on the poor guy. The effects of that on people's brains has a definite influence in their lives for a few weeks afterwards. (I'm used to it.) So if you really want 'what he's been smokin', you might wanna check out a Circle Dance in your area. Of course, in your case, the effect would probably just be the increased 'inflatulence' of the pull of the moon. jeffp - Hmmm. Interesting thought. I have been farting more often since meeting Spaw, even just digitally on Mudcat. Could he really be the God of farts and other rumbles?

18 Oct 00 - 06:06 PM (#322174) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Haruo If you have IE and can view GeoCities sites, you might give up on explaining earthquakes and just practice up for the Big One by visiting my (I know it's in Esperanto, but pressing on the button should have the same effect for English-speakers). Doesn't seem to work in Netscape, though or maybe the script expired or something. Liland |
18 Oct 00 - 06:13 PM (#322187) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: hesperis Second thought, Spaw, DON'T check out a Circle Dance in your area. I don't know if this ol' world could take that..... |

18 Oct 00 - 07:18 PM (#322239) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Little Hawk Hey, c'mon Spaw, this isn't the dumbest thread ever on Mudcat. You've launched at least 300 that leave it in the dust, right? Besides, we'll probably find out all kinds of really neat things about earthquakes that are actually true, when Wolfgang gets around to posting here (hint, hint). :-) |
18 Oct 00 - 07:27 PM (#322249) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Metchosin No Muse, fortunately she doesn't.... |

"dearie do you remember when Gilda Grey did the shimmy shake ~ that's what started the Frisco quake." Apparently whenever something is done with a natural rhythm ~ and if it is done in enough houses (or on stage for that matter) at one time ~ then :::: it will set up ((((natural vibrations)))) in the earth ~ and, if strong enough could trigger an earth quake. They don't call the Pacific Ocean the ring of fire for nothing. Cap't Bob |
18 Oct 00 - 08:25 PM (#322298) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: catspaw49 LH, to be absolutely truthful, Wolfgang is a music only act, occasionally discussing politics, and although he "played" for a change lately, I cannot see him even bothering to look at this thread. If he does, I don't believe he'll make it past the first couple of posts. I am of course very often wrong, but that you might entice him into this?........I don't see it happening. Spaw |

18 Oct 00 - 10:42 PM (#322373) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Little Hawk Actually, I started this thread as a joke, and because I thought it might lead to some interesting thread creep, but it is a rather appealing notion isn't it? Planetary orgams, I mean. I like it. You may be right about Wolfgang, Spaw, we shall see.., |
18 Oct 00 - 10:54 PM (#322382) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: sophocleese Planetary orgasms indeed, Little Hawk. What about supernovas, black holes and white, brown or pink polka-dotted dwarfs? The mind doesn't just boggle, it retreats in disorderly haste. |
18 Oct 00 - 11:01 PM (#322389) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Little Hawk Yes, but orgasms are more fun. Besides, when you mention dwarfs all that comes to my mind is flattop... :-D Ha! Ha! |
18 Oct 00 - 11:38 PM (#322428) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: hesperis Hawk, are you picking on flattop again? Shame! (How many emoticons do you need in order to know that was a joke?) |
18 Oct 00 - 11:50 PM (#322434) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Rich(bodhránai gan ciall) Six posts into this Spaw summed it up. Dumb thread, really dumb thread. I keep waiting for it to get good, cause Spaw can't be right all the time, but so far I gotta agree with him. Getting to be an alarming trend, agreeing with Spaw. I'll be eating Vegemite by the end of the year if this keeps up. :) Rich |
19 Oct 00 - 12:04 AM (#322441) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: hesperis Well, you could always come up with a theory about earthquakes yourself, or at least give the rest of us an explanation of the scientific view........ But no, you just have to complain that the thread's dumb. You get out of it what you put into it, I guess. |
19 Oct 00 - 08:43 AM (#322511) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: MMario Ever wonder why the earth has a hot core? Well, planets are actually "star eggs" and those earthquakes? That's the embryo moving around. some day the crust gonna split open and a new starbeing gonna poke it's head out... |
19 Oct 00 - 01:59 PM (#322635) Subject: RE: BS - the REAL reason for Earthquakes From: Little Hawk Now there's a really cool theory!!! Thank God there is someone out there who actually appreciates the purpose of this supposedly dumb thread. Way to go, MMario! |
