20 Oct 00 - 01:13 AM (#323183) Subject: Song Circle Locations II From: Peter Kasin The original song circle thread was up to 122 posts, so to make it easier on some of the computers out there, here's a continuation. There is a chantey sing aboard the historic schooner C.A. Thayer at San Francisco's Hyde Street Pier, on Fisherman's Wharf. It happens on the first Saturday of every month, from 8pm to midnight. Free, but reservations are made by calling (415) 556-6435. I like to think of it as "a safe place to sing." All abilities are welcome, and all are welcome to lead a chantey or shore song. Mudcatters rIGGY, radriano, Melani, Elise, Winter's Wages, P.J. and Dave Swan are regulars and lead some wonderful songs. The only rules are: 1. Don't repeat a song that has already been done. 2. Songs must have a chorus, so everyone has a chance to join in. 3. Kids must be with parents or adult guardians. 4. No audible conversations during a song, out of respect for the singers and listeners. 5. Bawdy songs after 11:00 pm. 6. No smoking aboard ship. In the not a rule but a common courtesy category, no hogging the floor - give all who want to a chance to lead songs. Although there is probably no perfect way to organize a song circle that will please everyone, this system seems to have worked over the years for the greater good. If you're in the S.F. bay area around the 1st week of the month, give a call and come on down. -chanteyranger Here is PART ONE. |

20 Oct 00 - 07:12 PM (#323647) Subject: RE: Song Circle Locations II From: Alice I started a song circle in my town as of this month (had the first one last Saturday).
The location is "Wellington's Tea & Pastry", Bozeman, MT. The day is every second Saturday of the month. The time is from 3pm to 4:30pm (unless it grows and we need to start earlier). The owner of Wellington's is a lovely lady from England named Gill (pronounced Jill). |
01 Apr 01 - 09:44 PM (#430889) Subject: RE: Song Circle Locations II From: wysiwyg REFRESH Here is PART ONE. The two threads cross in chronology. Perhaps it would make sense to go to a Part Three for clarity, with fresh instructions from Joe Offer on what information to include when posting? ~Susan Yeah, a revised Song Circle PermaThread is in the planning stage. -Joe Offer- |
02 Apr 01 - 01:07 AM (#430950) Subject: RE: Song Circle Locations II From: artbrooks Prescott, AZ has one that kind of travels around from place to place. It's usually on the next to last or last Friday or Saturday of the month (regularity is boring) and the group uses RUS about 2/3 of the time. Call me at 520-777-8812 or Rissa at 520-445-8823 for information. Art |

16 Oct 01 - 03:28 PM (#573564) Subject: RE: Song Circle Locations II From: Joe Offer I'm looking for a volunteer to collate, verify, and correct all information we have in the two threads. If somebody would like to do that and post an update here in this thread, I'll start a PermaThread when I get back from the Getaway in November and post it in the PermaThread. Check the other PermaThreads for ideas on format. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |

02 Dec 01 - 11:55 AM (#602134) Subject: RE: Song Circle Locations II From: Genie Joe, if no one else volunteers before January, I am willing to spend some time on this permathread then. No time before Jan. 1. Another idea: Can we get several volunteers to verify song circle info (and serve as channels for new info) for their regions? Then I could put all the info into a permathread that would be organized by location. I am willing to take on verifying info for the West Coast, at least. Maybe someone else could do the Rocky Mtn. states, another person the Mid-west, etc. Somehow, we'll get it all covered. Folks in the UK and other places in Europe --and wherever Mudcatters dwell -- may want to volunteer to coordinate info for their own regions, too. Keep me posted. Genie

02 Dec 01 - 12:05 PM (#602139) Subject: RE: Song Circle Locations II From: Joe Offer Hi, Genie - I think it's best to get it all covered by one person. Most of it can be done through this thread. You'll find a number of people will jump in and help, but we need one person to coordinate the effort. If you want to appoint people to cover regions, that's fine - it's your baby. Thanks a lot. -Joe Offer- |
