23 Oct 00 - 09:49 PM (#325782) Subject: Chickory & Chibaba From: John Hindsill What's with all of the sudden people wanting lyrics to popular nonsense songs over 50 years old? As I am about to enter my seventh decade (that's 61 to purists), somebody bringing up these old songs is making me feel OLD. Now if anybody requests lyrics to Bingo Bango Bongo or Manyana (sorry I don't do ~s), I will pull out what's left of my thinning, but still somewhat dark, hair.---John |

24 Oct 00 - 12:45 AM (#325858) Subject: RE: Chickory & Chibaba From: wysiwyg I really DO want the words for Tubas in the Moonlight. Meant to post a thread asking, but now I dunno. Maybe not a good time. So I ask here as long as we are on the subject! A folk trio in Chicago used to do it, the Dooley Brothers, for a little light relief from their other serious stuff. It was a great love song, very silly but very serious too. Imagine. Tubas. In the moonlight. Maybe you had to be there. But God help me, I would sing it if I could remember it right. Someone must remember it. PM me if you are afraid posting it would reveal your age! I'll paste it in then myself! ~S~ |

24 Oct 00 - 07:25 AM (#325965) Subject: RE: Chickory & Chibaba From: Ferrara Well, I tell you what. I was glad to see those songs because when I was a little tiny child I just loved them both. But not nearly as much as I loved "Bingo Bango Bongo." When Bill and I were courting, among many shared interests, we were delighted to find a shared repertoire of 40's and 50's pop songs. Good stuff. There have been so many times at a party, etc, when one of us has started some song we'd never discussed or sung together, and the other would be the only person in the room who knew it. Age-based pair bonding, I guess.... |
