Lyr Req: Soulful Shade of Blue

In 1968, Buffy Saint Marie made a great album. I think it was called " Country Girl Again" It was the only straight up country thing she did ( I think) and it had some great songs on it that I never heard anyone else do. I think if she had stayed in that area, she would have given Loretta and Tammy and Emmy Lou a run for their money Anyway, the song I'm looking for is "Soulful Shade of Blue" "Dressmaker, dressmaker, I'm singin' at the ball Next Saturday night and he'll be there...." There were lots of other good songs on that record , but this is the one that my wife and I like to sing. THe record and the words are in the U.S., however, and we are in China for the next year or so.... Thanks Seth from China

Make it a soulful shade of blue
with ribbons at the hair
A ribbon white for loyalty
To show that I remember
when a soulful shade of blue
looked into my eyes, and tell him
I want him back again.

Grr, I can remember much less of it than I thought. It's also on the "Best of Buffy Sainte-Marie" album. You can probably find it at lyrics.ch; I couldn't get the lyrics to pop up, but I haven't compiled the Java development kit for Mozilla yet.

SOULFUL SHADE OF BLUE
(Buffy Sainte-Marie)

Dressmaker, dressmaker, I'm singing at the hall
Next Saturday night and he'll be there.
He's been gone for so long. I want him back again.
Make me the sweetest dress you can.

Make it a soulful shade of blue, with a ribbon at the hem,
A ribbon white for loyalty. Show that I remember
When a soulful shade of blue looked into my eyes,
And tell him I want him back again.

Dressmaker, dressmaker, don't make it loud or bright.
Just make it a sweet and gentle style.
Then maybe he'll remember me. 'Twas not so long ago
I knew his sweet and gentle smile.

Make it a soulful shade of blue, with a ribbon at the hem,
A ribbon white for loyalty. Show that I remember
When a soulful shade of blue looked into my eyes,
And tell him I want him back again.
Make it a soulful shade of blue ooh, ooh, ooh, ooooooohhhhhhhhh.

Gosh, I haven't sung that song in 30 years -- had sorta forgotten it. Gee, I was young, and surely it was a fine tune on a fine album. Who played the steel guitar on it? Tony
