It's a little late for this, but, I got the word late, and, I dont know where Bert is, so, it is not in "whats on".
Anyway, there is a concert in So. Freeport Maine on Sat. the 28th at the First Congo church. It features 'Catters Kendall and Kat Logan. There will be a variety of performers. More details I dont have, and I dont want to post her phone number here. It is a benefit to send some young folks to the Dominican Republic to build a church there.

Well, HOWWDEEE!!! That's pretty close 'ter home!!! (Yarmouth, bordering to the South). Ol' Aunt Mahtha is gwine ter be at a conference in RI Fri & Sat, leaving auld Uncle Jaque to his own devices. A folk concert just up the road a piece (I could almost ride my bike up there.. not that i would) for a worthy cause? That's a strong draw, Mate! Thanks for the advisory! I wonder what (if anything) is happening with Naemanson up at he Chocolate Church that evening - Coffee house etc.?? Hope there's no conflict, as I'd like to go up there some time, too.

Unfortunately, Jaque, that is also the night for Mocha Cafe so I cannot be there. I asked Kat to get me the details so I could post it but she hasn't contacted me yet. However, I have heard some of the line up. Many of you are familiar with Kendall and what he does. When you ad him to the mix with Kat Logan (a voice like warm chocolate) and David ____, guitar player and songwriter par excellance you have one hell of a show. And there is another person going to be there but I cannot remember who. I want to say Jerry Blodget. If that is true then I suggest Kat's concert over the Mocha Cafe. Especially since it is for a good cause.

Kendall - Will this be your first public performance since the surgery? How are the pipes holding together?

Hmmm, that didn't quite come out right. I didn't mean to imply that Jerry would make the show. All four of the performers are excellant and and any one of them would make it a great show.

You are most gracious Brett. I didnt know there would be a conflict with the coffee house. Thats too bad. Hope you dont hurt us too bad ! Some years ago, I was doing a mini concert at a big festival. They had me placed in a small outdoor pavillion right next to the big concert hall where Ray Charles was scheduled to perform at the same time I was to be on.
While pondering how to get out without being seen, two of the Irish Rovers came along, Jimmy Furgerson and Joe, the bass player. We talked a while, (I had to promise not to let on who they were) and I told them what the schedule maker had done to me. Furgerson said, "Lets hope you dont hurt him too bad!"
As it turned out, there was a large number of people who didnt go to Charles' concert, but, in fact came to mine!

Kendall: Considering milage involved and Brett's generous dispensation, I'm planning to be there if at all able. What time are you planning to start letting people in? I'll have to check the "Shopping Notes" for any local bean suppers immediately preceeding - now that's my idea of a Sat. night well spent! Your gig is at the little white Church @ the 4 corners accross from the little store on So. Freeport Rd., isn't it? A 2nd Cousin "Sarah" used to Minister there. Hope some other Mudcatters can be there, too!

You are right on all counts. It is sheduled to start at 7:30, so, they would let you in around 7 I should think.
Be sure you introduce yourself, ok?

I'll be the guy with the 1860s style Empirial moustache ("Col. Sanders") and black 3rd Maine Regimental slouch hat. It's.. well, "distinctive". Hope you don't mind if I sing along on some of the more "traditional" stuff. You are going to do some "trad" tunes, arn't you? If this is going to be all new-age save-the-whales hippie/Yuppie Commie prevert dope-smokin' protest stuff, I may change my mind about coming... but if you are the "Kendall" who I think you are, I believe it'll be quite OK. See (and better yet, hear) you there, Mate!

Me? hippy stuff? aint likely! Unless I change my mind at the last minute, which I often do, I'll be doing Stan Rogers' "Lock Keeper", Utah Phillips' "I remember loving you",Sheb Wooleys "I dont look good naked", Maybe "Mrs. Ravoon" "I got sick of you" (sometime ago) and something with Kat logan (Unbelievable set of pipes!) "Fond Affection" or maybe something from Tom Paxton.. And, of course, you are welcome to sing along!

Jaque, you'll hear lots of good music tonight but no "new-age save-the-whales hippie/Yuppie Commie prevert dope-smokin' protest stuff". I think Kendall would rather have his throat cut before he'd do any of that stuff and I know it isn't the style fr any other the other guests. Kat does a little of it but her she does some traditional and some modern singer songwriter stuff too. Her musical taste is great and I predict you will have nothing to complain of.

A small but very appreciative audience. Quite enjoyable. No one went on and on as they sometimes do. My "frog" was there as usual, but, it didnt really ruin the performance. I did, "I dont look naked anymore," "I got sick of you sometime ago" "The lock keeper" "I Remember loving you" and "Fond Affection" A young man named Jud Caswell did a set, he is an outstanding picker and songwriter. A woman named Kim did her set, really nice voice, and a talented song writer too. Bernie Cohen showed up and did only one song, I could have listened to many more. Then, David Bullard, a very talented singer/songwriter and master picker did some of his original songs, very mature for a young man. Finally, Kat Logan ended it with a couple of songs. This lady has an incredible set of pipes. Tremendous range, timbre and modulation. All in all, it was just great. Uncle Jaque was there, maybe he would care to comment?

Wish I coulda been there. I was freezing on a lovely hillside in Vermont, performing as a tree sprite in a Forest of Mystery. Next time, I'm for Maine...

I'm glad things went well in South Freeport.

We had a pretty good audience to start out at the Mocha Cafe but it turns out they were there to hear a group that calls themselves Clothespins. Not coffeehouse material at all. They showd up with a pickup truck loaded to the gills with equipment and promptly unloaded it on to my little stage. I explained as they did so that they would only get two songs but that didn't seem to faze them at all. I also explained that the room is very lively and doesn't need much sound to drive it. They explained that they were a "quiet" band.

I banned their amplifiers right away. I explained that I wanted them to connect into my board because I needed to mix their sound. We finally got them going and they ran a couple of soft rock numbers and then bailed out, completely. They left without staying to see anyoone else perform. Not a good way to act at all.

The rest of the evening went well. We had a great mix of performers doing anything from their own music to good old gospel tunes. The featured performer, Alison Freeman, did a mix of traditional music and her own singer-songwriter stuff (as I kidded her earlier, singing her diary). She has a beatiful voice and is restarting a musical career in the Boston area. For those of you down there keep your eyes open for Heaven Street at the local clubs and open mikes.

Animaterra, I assume you had some sort of costume. Are you wearing it to the party?
